Acclaimed Music Top 40 Songs from 2001 poll

finally back and wanted to put a positive happening in 2001 instead of something negative. though i'm still really, really bummed lately.

Clint Eastwood. constant rotation on MTV. a lot of these i remember vividly playing in the background of the aftermath of 9/11 thru the rest of the year. could've easily voted for Chop Suey!, Izzo, The Middle, Get Ur Freak On, Last Nite, or Island in the Sun (no Hash Pipe?). So many others on here are etched in my mind forever. Strange days.

Pagan Poetry, because "I love him, I love him, I love him, I love him" might be my favourite moment in music ever.

Surprises myself by not voting for the Weezer track. Even though green album was my favorite record of that year, Island in the Sun was one of the lower-ranked songs for me.

The best out of these are Clint Eastwood, Dead Leaves on the Dirty Ground,and Party Hard. It was impossible for me not to vote for the latter.

Feel like Fischerspooner - Emerge is the quintessential 2001 song for me. Looks good, feels good too, even today,

Good list. Kylie, Aaliyah, Squarepusher, Bran Van 3000 all great songs. Pagan Poetry too, of course, but to me it feels a bit out of place, isolated from Vespertine.

Torn between Missy, Kylie and Bjork so went Pagan Poetry purely on the basis of those bass synths and the goosebumpy "I love him" outro section.

Surprised "Bootylicious" is so low. Love both Daft Punk and Basement Jaxx songs and of course Missy, but I'm voting for "Emerge" for making me go out dancing again.

"Bootylicious" no match for every single Strokes song, apparently.

In the end I had to vote for Clint Eastwood.

Hearing the first line alone, "I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad", rockets me into deep depression. The downward spiral in Albarn's pronunciation of "happy" makes me deeply miserable. What is so great, 15 years on, about that song?

I'm genuinely curious why anyone like that song. To me it's not just boring, but aggressively ugly and stupid.

at the end of this series, it would be kinda neat to see which songs have gained the most appreciation over time vs which have lost the most (roughly measured by subtracting the poll result ranking from the acclaimed music ranking; for this poll, "Last Nite" was ranked #2 on acclaimed music but tied for #17 on this poll, so it would get a score of -15, while "We Need a Resolution" was ranked #20 on acclaimed music but #4 here, so it would get a score of +16).

all of these scores could then be multiplied by .134314 to determine the ultimate score of all time ranking, which of course would feed into

interesting idea, if you take into account ties and all that. i have no problem with someone doing that at the end, those numbers would be interesting.
