Been a fan of Black Dice forever, but in my mind Eric Copeland surpassed them with his solo work as early as 2009 when the ALIEN IN A GARBAGE DUMP CD came out. I saw him that year in the spring and it was a life-changing show - I remember walking home from Saturday detention the next day thinking "what am I doing?" re: music. he completely blew me away. I have a recording of that show if anyone wants it. I went on a school night by myself to see him at the same place six months later, and there were a lot less people there. I smoked way too much pot before EC's set, and had a panic attack standing in front of his wall of amps. It was the most frightening set I've ever seen, I had to dip out halfway thru, it was just too much.
A year later he put out STRANGE DAYS, a weird one even for him, but it remains my favorite. The cover simply says "POPULAR MUSIC OF URANUS," and it sounds like someone channel-surfing on Uranus. Worth seeking out if you haven't heard it, it's full of beautiful and strange and twisted sounds and loops without compare. I still can't figure it out. Love the singles he put out for a couple years there, like "UFOs Over Vampire City," "Doo Doo Run," "Car Alarm," "Brain Dead," "Fun Dink Death," "Whorehouse Blues," etc... but I'd love to see them compiled onto an LP or CD. imo LIMBO was his last amazing LP, but I admire his work ethic and non-stop output. BLACK BUBBLEGUM is fantastic though, it's up there...
any other freaks out there? duke it out...
