Should I take over and run the Oasis poll? (is ILM really interested?)

ILM needs a poll runner for this artist poll and it's coming up. I was thinking of taking this over but is there really any interest in an Oasis poll on ILM?

the Acclaimed Music poll is on hold for the July 4th weekend. It will return the night of July 6th with the year 2003.

i'm not even sure i want to listen to Oasis right now but if there is genuine interest i will go ahead and sign up and probably run it here this summer. mainly because artist polls are dead right now and i can do one.

Bee OK, Thursday, 30 June 2016 01:26 (seven years ago) link

so voted "I might vote in it" to not sway the vote too much.

C'mon. If any band needs an ILM poll it's Oasis!

i can care less about anything after Morning Glory.

Bee OK, Thursday, 30 June 2016 02:29 (seven years ago) link

Certainly Oasis are top ten for the number of ILX threads. Let us pay them the ultimate compliment of a poll!

everything, Thursday, 30 June 2016 02:36 (seven years ago) link

I might vote. I mean I know the first four albums and a number of the B-sides pretty well and I enjoyed jvc's "era by era" polling threads. They're a bit unusual for me in acts that could be polled.... the stuff I know I know very well, but I'm not all that inclined to listen to it these days, and very incurious (perhaps wrongly so?) about checking out their post-Giants albums. So I might not personally get more out of it than I would out of the radio-button poll threads, but I don't think that should really be an argument for or against someone running a poll. There could be other people for whom this turns out to be a golden opportunity to rediscover a favorite band they've set aside for too long, or to check out records they slept on.

If you love Oasis and think you'll enjoy talking about them with people then I say go for it. If you're just worried about turnout I don't think you have to worry too much. More obscure acts have gotten through polls okay and even when the ballot numbers weren't spectacular my sense is that a splendid time was had by all.

voted no but support future meta-polls in which bee ok giggles at his own thoughts

mookieproof, Thursday, 30 June 2016 03:13 (seven years ago) link

Don't know post-Morning Glory Oasis well enough to vote, but I also don't imagine I'm missing much. I am pretty excited to see Talking Heads coming up shortly if you wanna run something, Bee OK. Feel like you'll get a good turnout with that one too

If you poll Oasis though, please do a Gallagher bros quotes poll

Vinnie, Thursday, 30 June 2016 12:48 (seven years ago) link

I know the albums well enough, save "Dig"' and all the b-sides that get labelled 'inessential'

So, I'll 'ave a shufti, let's say.

this is going about as well as expected

Bee OK, Friday, 1 July 2016 00:46 (seven years ago) link

i know Vinnie, Talking Heads is going to be a blast but i don't think i'm going to touch that one until around Feb 2017.

Bee OK, Friday, 1 July 2016 00:47 (seven years ago) link

i'd do this, mostly bc I love reexamining bands I've written off 10000000 times

Round,
Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning
On an ever-spinning reel
Like a snowball down a mountain
Or a carnival balloon
Like a carousel that's turning
Running rings around the moon
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes of its face
And the world is like an apple
Whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind

Like a tunnel that you follow
To a tunnel of its own
Down a hollow to a cavern
Where the sun has never shone
Like a door that keeps revolving
In a half-forgotten dream
Like the ripples from a pebble
Someone tosses in a stream

Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes of its face
And the world is like an apple
Whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind

Keys that jingle in your pocket
Words that jangle in your head
Why did summer go so quickly?
Was it something that you said?
Lovers walk along a shore
And leave their footprints in the sand
Is the sound of distant drumming
Just the fingers of your hand?

Pictures hanging in a hallway
And the fragment of a song
Half-remembered names and faces
But to whom do they belong?
When you knew that it was over
You were suddenly aware
That the autumn leaves were turning
To the color of his hair?

Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning
On an ever-spinning reel

As the images unwind
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind

i'm really excited to see these results. i don't have any interest in really doing this poll but if the votes are there i will listen again.

Nope=31. Will vote + will watch = 31. "Might vote" tips things in favor of Oasis poll. (I'm doing the statistical analysis while glenn is busy Canadifying things). I'll do "most blur-like Oasis voter" and "most Oasis-like blur voter" next week when I get my new calculator.

If half of the 'maybe' votes do ballots, that's more than 20.
