Obv it's a lot just that I like them but I also think the majority of haters here who think this is the worst band ever have a very confined notion of what the band is premised on the songs in this year's poll and maybe like "Girls" and "Sex" and "Chocolate", whereas if they listened to "Me" or "fallingforyou" or "Undo" or "Intro/Set 3" or "Haunt//Bed" or "Menswear" would be very surprised.
― Tim F, Saturday, 23 January 2016 00:53 (eight years ago) link
And if you get into the band through the latter sort of material it totally shapes and changes the way you perceive of a song like "Love Me".
Hey hey I never said they were the worst band ever, just the worst band in this poll. I can think of worst.

First listen in the noms list, I dismissed the 1975. Then gr80 described them to me as like if the Jonas Brothers did drugs, lol, and I saw the video and vibed on that and thought hey why not throw them a vote.
I didn't think v hard about this poll.

I don't understand a world in which the 1975 is considered worse than Sufjan Stevens.

I made made a preliminary list to serve as a time capsule of this year in my listening, then went through everything nominated by a half dozen ILMers with sympatico tastes, and sampled maybe 40% of the Spotify list. Guilty pleasure Fleur East, and a "new Grace Jones", V V Brown, slipped in this way (wish someone had nominated the album Glitch). Then its just prune till I'm pretty sure everything left will stand up to repeated listens, and still sparks pleasure when I hear it's opening.
I mentioned this in the voting thread, but V V Brown's "Shift" is p much a RnB/dance music masterpiece that I found out about from Alfred blogging about TSJ. Exactly the kind of otherwise-overlooked classic that I expect to discover in the ILX tracks poll when we're not succumbing to millenial schmindie-ism or doubling/tripling up on pet albums. But thats in me as much as anybody, least of all for forgetting to nominate it.

hoping the votes for various angel haze and abra trax here bode well for the albums poll
― cher guevara (lex pretend), Friday, January 22, 2016 12:04 PM (Yesterday)
Yeah, I went with your tactic of not voting for songs off the albums I was voting for, so I would be surprised (and basically burn the entire message board down) if Angel Haze doesn't make albums. I have mixed feelings about the varying tactics - it felt quite refreshing this year but I think it is because my top five make sense as coherent units rather than a bunch of standout songs put together. Though actually my #2 might have been too tempting if they hadn't released the standouts in 2014.
― emil.y, Saturday, 23 January 2016 03:34 (eight years ago) link
Adore both the Abra album and the Angel Haze mixtape but both feel like releases it would feel very odd to pull individual songs out of, both are so coherent full statements or at least I experience them that way.
― Tim F, Saturday, 23 January 2016 03:42 (eight years ago) link
I voted for Abra in tracks not albums because I'm young and I'll waste you away.
― The Reverend, Saturday, 23 January 2016 05:15 (eight years ago) link
I voted for Abra in tracks and Angel Haze in albums, because I have a diversified portfolio.

I don't generally expect that many of my selections will place, but the non-placer I was most surprised by was ANOHNI - as well as being amazing it also stands out by sounding completely unlike the rest of the competition. Thought it was well-received on ILM too.― conditional random jepsen (seandalai), Thursday, January 21, 2016 5:37 PM (2 days ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

This was my #1 (after being my #4 and realizing after tabulation that my top three weren't nominated) and would chalk it up to the song being released really late in the year, early Dec. iirc.

TY for the Spook School etc ... went down a rabbit hole of "Burn Masculinity", Martha, twowhitecranes blog posts etc from this. I chickened out from putting i hate sex / G.L.O.S.S. & regional DIY on my singles list after DJing on NYE and deciding on a dancefloor focus as winnowing tool, eh.

Oh, that's awesome. I always assume my indie/DIY votes are basically thrown away and of no interest to ilx0rs, but use EoY lists as a tool to remind myself what I actually liked in the past year, so would be dishonest to exclude them.

Best find I got from this poll:
Daphne & Celeste - You and I Alone
Skimming on individual polls to see if I find something I like (I have found many songs I've liked, actually). But this is so good. It seems many of you voted for it and I hadn't seen it anywhere. Any threads you'd recommend where you discuss this sort of music throughout the year?
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 23 January 2016 23:42 (eight years ago) link
You And I Alone is essentially a Max Tundra song. You'd find him on places like the rolling time travel thread.
