1992, A Wonderful Year in Ambient Music: Poll and Discussion

I while I did poll on ambient albums released in 1994 and 1993, and I thought I'd continue the series, so here's 1992 for you. I didn't include albums that I felt are too much into the direction of techno, trance, rock music, "world beat", etc... So there's no Aphex Twin, Sven Väth, Main, or Muslimgauze on the list, sorry about that.

Once again, you are free to discuss these records, and the general state of ambient in 1992, as well as point out any glaring omission.

For me, this a very hard choice between PWOG, Biosphere, and Silence. Silence is more purist ambient than the other two, but they're all wonderful records.

The Dominic Woosey album is a forgotten gem of wistful oceanic vibes too.

I would add Soul Kiss (Glide Divine).

Would be between that, Flying High, Silence, Microgravity and Ov Biospheres I think, if the latter wasn't an instavote ;)

PWOG still gets listened to regularly. The Coil one I can't remember offhand but will check it again before voting

For you Microgravity lovers, Biosphere released a remastered version of the album last spring, it also includes a bonus album of unreleased tracks from the same era. The bass sound on the remaster is immersive, and the bonus tracks are pretty dope too.

Not a fan of Thomas Köner? I'd expect Teimo to be included, it's a wonderful piece of dark drone. Loads of great stuff there, Cranioclast, Michael Brook, those two Steve Roaches, Lustmord, U.F.Orb, Rapoon, The Irresistible Force. The Biosphere one used to be a favourite of mine but over the years I've found that I prefer Patashnik, Substrata, Polar Sequences, Fires Of Ork and Shenzou to it.

Discogs says "Teimo" was released in 1991.

I'll probably do a 1995 poll before 1991 though.

Wondering why UFOrb is here and not SAW 85-92. The Orb certainly take in as much house/dub influence to warrant the presence of the latter, right?

Oh, and this wasn't anywhere to hear online last time I checked.

Goosebumps, pretty heavy stuff.
