romare - projections

just discovered this belatedly. i like it a lot. its quite polite, grown up, gilles peterson-friendly, like dance music for people who were there in the 90s, but also makes me think a bit of actress, debruit (conceptually at least), and some of the woozier brainfeeder kind of stuff. the review on RA is kind of ridiculous with its charges of cultural appropriation, not cos those things dont happen, but i dont really get that romare is quite trying to say/do what the reviewer thinks (i dont think the album is really audacious enough for all those claims), but then the album IS called projections, so....

yeah, i liked this album a lot in a low-key kind of way. haven't listened to it in a few months though.

I thought it was very nice and the RA review was way out of line.

I wasn't massively into this but RA reviews are the worst

One of my favourites this year. I appreciate it being so subdued, at the same time never losing focus.
