$55 to see prince from the rafters of an arena 11 years ago (and be given a free cd of 'musicology')

insanely good and totally worth it despite my relative poverty at the time

As I said in the other thread:

I think the most I ever spent for tix was for a NYE show, and it was Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, and it was still only something like $60 or maybe $80 per person, and the venue turned out to be pretty enjoyable even though it was some weird underground level theater near times square, and I only spent that much out of feeling bad at never doing anything spendy on NYE, and we had a blast.

think I paid $140 for a scalped Rush seat a few months ago

Hammer Smashed Bagels, Thursday, 13 August 2015 02:16 (eight years ago) link

I don't think I've ever paid more than 30 bucks (tax etc. included) for a concert ticket.

Bowie on the Reality tour. Somewhere in the $70-$100 range.

jmm, Thursday, 13 August 2015 02:17 (eight years ago) link

xxp considering that i now have a full-time job and rush rules, that seems both totally reasonable and also crazily high

mookieproof, Thursday, 13 August 2015 02:20 (eight years ago) link

Outside of my NYE splurge I really never spend/t anything close to that -- the next highest one was probably something like 25-30.

Equivalent of about 130 american dollars to see Bruce Springsteen. First and only stadium show. Paid da cost to see da boss.

The Who Quadrophenia tour two years ago: one ticket cost me $100+ (christmas present from mr veg)
Awesome show, cried buckets of tears of joy.

Before that was the same Prince rafters seats on the same tour Mookie went to in the op. Still worth it!

Just shy of $200 for Morrissey. Had to pay resale prices to get fairly close floor seats. Seats were great, it was worth it.

i flew from ny to london to see the mott the hoople reunion. the tickets themselves weren't crazy. i was a little crazy.

Thus Sang Freud, Thursday, 13 August 2015 03:08 (eight years ago) link

IIRC, I paid $162 through Ticketmaster for two tickets to the Dylan/Nelson/Mellencamp tour in '09. This got me covered seats 15-20 rows from the stage with overhead fans going in a summer shed on veeeerrrrryyy hot August in Texas day.

Most for a single artist would be $70-ish through Frontgate(?) for Neil Young (w/Bert Jansch opening) on the Twisted Road tour. It was a front-row balcony seat at the very top of the venue.

Not sure what my biggest club expenditure was. Saw X & Blondie on their joint tour a couple years ago, seems like that after tax & surcharges was $50+ general admission.

Daft Punk 1997 $48

About €80 for Mylene Farmer in Lyon - plus flights, hotel, etc, etc. I go to France to see her whenever she tours.

1200 DKK / $180 to see Dylan in 2011 at a rather intimate amphitheater (2200 tickets).

Worth it.

£35 to see Charlie Haden, Carla Bley and the Liberation Music Orchestra as part of Ornette Coleman's Meltdown Festival (Ornette turned up at the end to wave to the crowd but didn't play; Robert Wyatt came onstage and played a nice bit of pocket trumpet). It wasn't a mind-blowing gig - tho' Haden was utterly charming and had the audience in the palm of his hand - but I'm really glad I went now.

$70 for Rolling Stones earlier this year. Nosebleeds ahoy.

Also $120 for Paul McCartney in like april

$150 for three day phish 1999/2000 new years festival. I was completely sick of phish at this point and had just gotten back from what I swore would be my last show ever, but my friends needed to borrow my mom's station wagon for the trip and I reluctantly went along with their plan. It was a total shitshow and I wish to this day that I'd never agreed to go.

$150 each for 2 tickets (+ train tickets) for my partner and me to see Stevie Wonder, first night of last year's Songs in the Key of Life tour. Seats were really good, about 15 rows from the back on the floor (Madison Square Garden). Absofuckinglutely worth it. Songs isn't even my favorite of his peak-years records, but it was an incredibly moving experience.

Paid £90 each for two fleetwood mac tickets this year but then they cancelled and I got a full refund. In a way I was pleased because I'd just got back from holiday, felt like shit, and had a todd terje all-sayer the day after.

£140 (the listed price, not from a scalper) for an excellent, didn't-need-the-big-screens seat at the London O2 for Fleetwood Mac this year. Would almost never pay so much, but they were top of my Unseen Legends list, and it felt like now or never.

mike t-diva, Thursday, 13 August 2015 16:22 (eight years ago) link

I stated elsewhere that I paid $135 to see Prince in a medium-sized club; it was actually $165

I would have paid up to $500, the show was that good

I Am Curious (Dolezal) (DJP), Thursday, 13 August 2015 16:24 (eight years ago) link

Prince in Birmingham last year was my second priciest. Standing tickets, best show I've seen him do since the Lovesexy tour.

mike t-diva, Thursday, 13 August 2015 16:25 (eight years ago) link

i was v tempted by the £140 fleetwood mac at the o2 tickets, but decided in the end that €75 tickets and a trip to paris was the better idea

i have trouble paying more than $30 for a show, i guess i'm a cheapskate. probably paid $40 for dylan a few times. i think i paid 50+ bucks for nick cave a few years ago, but my friend bought the tix and i didn't realize they were that much.

tylerw, Thursday, 13 August 2015 22:58 (eight years ago) link

most shows I go to (and I go to a lot) are between $8 - $20 so it makes those occasional expensive ones easier to justify.

emil.y, Friday, 14 August 2015 11:21 (eight years ago) link

Apart from festivals (which I haven't really been to in years anyway) I think maybe £35 to see Motorhead/Damned/Girlschool a few years ago?

Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Friday, 14 August 2015 11:24 (eight years ago) link

Apart from festivals, I can't think of any I've 'pushed the boat out' for. Quite a few that would cost a fortune if they did a gig now, though.

Even the Velvet Underground wasn't a silly price.

Mark G, Friday, 14 August 2015 12:18 (eight years ago) link

The Prince one (the Lovesexy/Black Album Wembley Arena one) might have been a bit pricey, but I can't remember how much.

Mark G, Friday, 14 August 2015 12:20 (eight years ago) link

daren't think about how much it would cost the promoter to get VU back together for one last tour

Merdeyeux, Friday, 14 August 2015 12:27 (eight years ago) link

I remember Masada at Yoshi's being really expensive compared to what I was used to...$30-35? Compared to what single show tickets cost these days, festival passes like FIMAV and Big Ears seem like really good value for the dollar.

rack of lamb of god (WilliamC), Friday, 14 August 2015 12:32 (eight years ago) link

I *think* my highest was the same Prince tour that mookie and VG referred to -- the show I saw was at the then-MCI Center in Washington, DC. I was pretty high up, but it was worth every penny. I may have paid a bit more for one of the McCartney shows I've been to.

I might like you better if we Yelped together (Phil D.), Friday, 14 August 2015 13:41 (eight years ago) link

Around £250 to see Madonna couple years back, Golden circle, early entry, "special gift" (rubbish watch). I've been a fan half my life and never seen her, thought I'd go all out. Absolutely worth it, minus the watch.

Leonard Pine, Friday, 14 August 2015 14:26 (eight years ago) link

When Bjork went on the Vespertine tour, first one since the 90s, I freaked out and ended up spending around $400 on tickets to a show of hers in another state. I got 8 tickets, scalped half of them, and flew me a 3 friends to Boston to see her play. It was incredible.

I tried the trick again later when Weezer came back and lost a bunch of money on it.

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 14 August 2015 15:29 (eight years ago) link

$120 to see the first nine inch nails tour in five years (tension 2013). honestly, the NIN show i paid less for (like 40ish with fees for lights in the sky 2008) was a bit better, but the seats for this one were p great loge box ones at TD garden. and godspeed you! black emperor opened, which was dope.

slothroprhymes, Friday, 14 August 2015 15:37 (eight years ago) link

NIN/Jane's Addiction was probably my second most expensive, Mansfield MA in 2009. I must have paid somewhere in the $50s.
