not really, but gave me an idea for POO Divine Fits song.

i like the idea of a non-a-sides & non-album-tracks canon, although a strict compilation of noms might get tricky as album tracks in one country might not be in another, etc.

i gave this serious consideration. at first i was going to do a Singles/EP's poll but unlike the Boo Radleys (the last poll i did a Singles/EP's side poll), Spoon only have seven EP's or singles and didn't feel like that was enough to rank. plus stuff like "The Agony of Laffitte" only has two songs on it. so what i did was increase the limit of songs from 20 to 25 to include your favorite B-sides or non-album tracks.

I'm quite into Spoon, but I'm only familiar with their most recent stuff (Ga, Transference, new one). Guess I should spend a little time with their older stuff before I send my ballot.

Cutting songs from A Series of Sneaks is really tough. That album is just stuffed full of amazing tunes.

yeah it's going to be tough to limit picks from that album...as a whole it's too long and there are some misses but the good songs on it are amazing.

jesus shit Gimmme Fiction is an amazing album. for some reason Ga Ga Ga and Girls Can tell were always my go-to albums i have no idea why. fuck this is good.

what i do to prepare for a poll is re-listen to everything that artist has done, doesn't matter if its my poll or any poll i vote in. New Order, because i had a 40 ballot poll, almost killed me. so now i'm doing the same thing for Spoon. so i went on Spotify and hit shuffle but all it has played, so far, is tracks from the last two albums. i wonder how Spotify picks its random songs? maybe by how many times tracks are played, so the last two albums makes sense. i just checked and they do have all albums in their queue so i will have to mix it up.

the funny thing about that is i own all their albums, so i don't need to listen on Spotify but it is so much easier...

i love that we live in a world where "They Way We Get By" is a gigantic hit. i always thought "The Underdog," "Sister Jack" or even something like " Written In Reverse" were much bigger songs?

Before the poll I only heard 4 Spoon albums: GF, Moonlight, GCT and They Want My Soul, so that's about half without the (numerous!) EPs and b-sides and whatnot. So I am in that very soft spot of discovering the band while being overly familiar with them, and to me it's always the most enjoyable moment in the 'listening to music' process.

I'm tempted to vote for "Dracula's Cigarette" from the Get Nice! digital bonus disc from Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. I'm not quite sure I could replace anything on my ballot with it, though.

i've listened to everything (except telephono) very extensively, but usually an album at a time. i shuffled everything all at once the other day and it was kind of weird breaking up the songs, you'd think that for such a songwriting-oriented band they'd work in any combination, but with the flow of the albums broken a lot more songs suddenly seemed momentarily annoying or thin or repetitive (of their tricks, not in the moment-to-moment sense)

KTM is the canonical pick, but, really, it depends which album you buy first. GF was mine; the others don't sound vastly different. KTM actually is the one I've most trouble remembering how the tunes go.

imo KTM became the canonical pick due to some big hits on the A side and it being the first album where critics cared BEFORE it came out. but i dig the albums before it more

It's been a big weekend. But I look forward to the rollout & moaning to myself that if I had sent a ballot in "Anything You Want" could have placed higher than "The Fitted Shirt" (which is the only Spoon track I actively loathe, tho I think I may be alone in this opinion).

I put "The Fitted Shirt" high on my ballot because I played drums in a band with a friend who is a big Spoon fan and he named the band the Fitted Shirt.

I was also once in a drop-D metal band with a song called "Requiem."

"I was in this drop-d metal band we called 'Requiem'" might be my favourite lyric ever. That and "moving furniture and cutting lawns".
