I remember seeing a bunch of those front-loading turntables in the '80s. And linear tracking was a huge selling point -- all your records are being ruined by tonearms that don't move in a straight line!

This could be cool if the fee includes the shipping costs (and, of course, they pursue more interesting than "famous" people to choose from). Or if someone attempted something like it w/ new reissues and had serious "diggers" choosing the albums each month.

23 issues...
"How many issues are there in The Beatles Vinyl Collection?
23 issues are currently planned for this series."
in the cost per issue it mentions triple lps, so i'm guessing the three anthology releases are part of this...
― koogs, Wednesday, 1 March 2017 21:55 (seven years ago) link
and two volumes of Live at the BBC
― koogs, Wednesday, 1 March 2017 21:59 (seven years ago) link
huh. ok. i guess that's fine as far as it goes? still, calling each platter of a double/triple LP an "album" is kinda weird imho.
idk assuming the quality's not shit, this is one scam that seems kiiiiiiiind of legit. beatles vinyl is hardly rare, but it's often very very overpriced as everybody here knows. so if you love the band but are just now getting into the hobby and didn't want to deal with beat-up filthy copies in worn out sleeves marked up to $30 a pop, then i guess you could do worse than this series. i personally have never been at all interested in having the anthology on vinyl - just too much bulk - and getting stuck buying that to get the rest does seem, not scammish, but on the lame side. feels like it'd be better to just cherry-pick the mono remasters or whatever other decent version of recent decades?
― tales of a scorched-earth nothing (Doctor Casino), Wednesday, 1 March 2017 22:18 (seven years ago) link
the jazz series pressings were fine. I got a few but didnt subscribe but a couple of friends did and they had no problems with it. you can however buy all back issues on their own from the website if you only wantto pick and choose.I was going to do that with the jazz ones...but didnt.

> still, calling each platter of a double/triple LP an "album" is kinda weird imho.
i don't think they are. they list a different price for 2xlp / 3xlp and single lps. those 5 i mention on top of the sixteen 2009 reissues brings it to 19. "1" and "love" might be another two. "red" and "blue" too?
― koogs, Wednesday, 1 March 2017 22:34 (seven years ago) link
(fourteen 2009 reissues)
― koogs, Wednesday, 1 March 2017 22:35 (seven years ago) link
Gotta say it WOULD be a scam if you end up paying for every studio album plus Past Masters AND all of 1, Red, and Blue also! "You get not only Yellow Submarine but also Yellow Submarine Songtrack!"
I guess Let It Be... Naked could be in there. Um.... My Bonnie?
― tales of a scorched-earth nothing (Doctor Casino), Thursday, 2 March 2017 00:56 (seven years ago) link

I dunno, I got all but the BBC/Anthols/Soundtrack/Love albums, clean ones, scruffed ones, ones on the lovely German Odeon label (we lived out there at the time), would I be tempted by a fresh "Abbey Road"? I've only got two LPs and a cassette of that one but not exactly dashing to play it..
Then again, you kids, go for it its all yours.
I might have if that first one was a fiver...

The guy i mentioned had 20 people to buy pre-orders and limited edition things. They were based all over the world. Sometimes he paid people to queue overnight at shops for RSD and sent people to gigs to buy up all the rare tour merch then and hold on to them then sell for massively inflated prices. Labels used to work out who he was but he then just got other people to do it. He boasted he made $100,000 a year from it and it was putting him through college.

great way to find a lot of rare RSD releases is to go to the cutout bins of the actual record store who feel obligated to buy all that shit then have it sit around in the bins forever

Well that's the problem- only a few titles are highly sought after (and get bought up immediately by flippers), but more than half of the releases sit in bins for 2 years.
