surprised that those two derivative gimmicks still had a presence in something resembling a spotlight

dyl, Sunday, 15 March 2015 23:54 (nine years ago) link

Yeah, these people have retained enough fame to be on tv in 2015?

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 15 March 2015 23:59 (nine years ago) link

natalia's diatribe is incredible. willy's comments are possibly worse imo because they're less absurdly ludicrous and more straight-up offensive

this video will prob create more spotlight than probably either of them have had in their respective careers

NZ x-factor has had Ruby Frost as a judge in the past and Mel Blatt out of all-saints is the blonde woman on the panel

Unexpectedly, they've been sacked. I'd've thought the producers would have left them there for ratings purposes. http://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/tv-radio/67416816/x-factor-judges-natalia-kills-willy-moon-sacked

I only just now played the video and heard what they'd actually said. Christ! Natalia Kills' entire career rests on her doing a decent Lady Gaga impression and Willy Moon was famous for half a month three years ago. Talk about living in a world of your own making.

Ha! This is a pretty tight burn

Also:
"Moon was embroiled in another controversy last week when he allegedly called a mother a “c**t” in an Auckland bakery. The woman, Tracey Neal-Gailer, thinks the X Factor judge was accusing her of taking his parking spot.

TV3 apologised on Moon’s behalf, but he later said he was not sorry and accused the woman of lying.

Producers of this season of X Factor also faced controversy for glossing over the personal history of contestant Shae Brider, who spent several years in prison after being convicted of manslaughter. "

still laughing at the idea that willy moon created the old suit&tie combo. the whole thing is like something from the nekci menij show

Here is Natalia Kills in 2010 being completely original and not at all like Lady Gaga. Nope. Not at all.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 16 March 2015 04:49 (nine years ago) link

xp i like wiki's summary more

In 2015 Moon insulted a woman twice following a traffic dispute. The woman responded by writing an open letter, pointing out to Moon the incident happened in front of two young girls. TV3 issued an apology on his behalf, but Moon refused to apologise, repeating the insult and accusing the woman of lying. His wife then also repeated the insult and accusation.[4]

these two are perfect

This clip at a New Zealand awards show from late last year is proof they live in their own strange world.

My favourite comments that I've seen about this are by the people who pointed out that when the presenter comes on stage at the end of the clip he is dressed exactly like the contestant also stealing Willy Moon's very unique suit and slicked back hair combination.

lol people are tweeting that her label dropped her, i think b/c they took her off the artist roster on their site

dyl, Tuesday, 17 March 2015 18:10 (nine years ago) link

I just came across Willy Moon last year while looking up random Youtube videos and thought to myself "Gah! This is a terrible mish mash of styles. I sure hope this guy doesn't make it in the US" But good to know that only is his music terrible, he's also a terrible person.

I feel like this is a good case for arguing that basic likeability is one of the key factors in making it as a pop star, cause I remember Natalia having some real jams (Saturday Night in particular) in the past. Saw her live once and she came across as completely over it and miserable, since then she's mainly made waves by being an arse on social media until now. Shame.

Leonard Pine, Wednesday, 18 March 2015 06:11 (nine years ago) link

Natalia Kills should have just stayed as Verbalicious, at least her one song back then was good.

oh, boy, .GIF! That's where I'm a Viking! (edwardo), Wednesday, 18 March 2015 07:32 (nine years ago) link

those two are very much the definition of world famous in new zealand

AB de Villiers Terrace (King Boy Pato), Wednesday, 18 March 2015 11:18 (nine years ago) link

and only because their clueless zinging on a national television show blew up in their faces

I feel like this is a good case for arguing that basic likeability is one of the key factors in making it as a pop star,

despite not winning their respective competitions, i have always believed this is the main reason for will young, olly murs, and even one direction becoming the success stories they have.

of course it doesn't always work out that way, but its definitely an important factor.

I feel like these two come off a lot better if you assume the segment was staged (which x factor audition segments p. much are)

katherine, Friday, 20 March 2015 10:03 (nine years ago) link

like, it's still reality tv, which works by very deliberately making people into heels

katherine, Friday, 20 March 2015 10:04 (nine years ago) link

but how dumb would you have to be to agree to a script that makes you, personally, look like a complete soul-crushing asshole with an unbelievably inflated self-image?

Doctor Casino, Friday, 20 March 2015 13:42 (nine years ago) link

i've never found it easy to believe that "willy moon" is a popstar (of sorts) and not some 70-year-old man selling tin by the side of a motorway in the irish midlands

Junior Dictionary (LocalGarda), Friday, 20 March 2015 13:47 (nine years ago) link

Outside potential as a couples halloween costume this year? Maybe would require one more really egregious act

badg, Friday, 20 March 2015 18:26 (nine years ago) link

xxposts: This wasn't an audition either - they were at the live finals by this point. also if it was staged I'd've thought one of them would have said something about that as a way of defending themselves. or, alternatively, if it were staged they wouldn't have been fired and the show instead would have woven in some sort of redemption narrative.

bae sremmurd (monotony), Friday, 20 March 2015 21:23 (nine years ago) link

Kinda thought they were looking to get fired/get some attention (if so it worked on me, despite X-Factor having been going for a while this ws the first time I got any idea who these ppl were)

worked out pretty well for simon cowell

katherine, Saturday, 21 March 2015 17:09 (nine years ago) link

more seriously, though, the "doppelganger" bit is one of idol/x factor's very favorite skits, the us shows at least work at least one into every season (hyperbole maybe, but it happens a lot). the thing about trying to call what's staged and what's not gets into conspiracy theorizing very fast but I think it's at least plausible
