jangly kinda twee jazz rock

first i really encountered anything that sounded like this was oddly enough while working through the discography of the japanese rock band the pillows. they started off as a jangle pop band indebted to the smiths and etc., then gradually absorbed jazz influences i guess? and they put out two really incredible jazz rock records in the mid-'90s, kool spice and living field.

sort of an oblique way to get into this music, but i was revisiting the cardigans' life the other day and it seemed to also fit into this mold

anyway, i'm sure there's a lot more of this, i'm just not sure where to look? is this what early everything but the girl is like? or is this stuff in its own world which doesn't cross over with sophistopop

not really but i've been looking for a place to slot that video

Maybe in 100 years someone will say damn Dawn was dope. (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 3 March 2015 20:09 (nine years ago) link

It maybe isn't full-on jangly or twee, but Sandro Perri's Impossible Spaces kinda fits the mold.

Don't the Sea and Cake's early records kind of fit this description perfectly?

Speaking of the Cardigans, lots of mid-to-late 90s Minty Fresh releases might qualify.
