There's lately a been a clutch of UK bands operating on a particular level around the UK scene, playing the circuit with a modicum of radio and media coverage. They neither fall into the hipster indie bracket of the last few years, nor the early-2000s NME-sponsored New Rock Revolution category, rather taking influence from metal, psych-rock and 90s alt-rock with an emphasis on blown-amps and catchy riffs.
Not sure if I'm all that invested yet, but I'm kind of glad these bands exist as for one they're generally better live than on record and still not so successful that they won't stop by my local venue to play a gig. I also think it's good, or at least interesting, that the UK is seeing a resurgence in this kind of heavy/loud guitar music that isn't quite punk or indie or metal but exhibits a fair amount of attitude and volume after an exceedingly long time in the wilderness.
So what says ILM of bands like the Wytches, God Damn, Kagoule, Hey You Guys, Vile Imbeciles, Fat White Family and more well-known acts like Royal Blood, Hoowkworms, Drenge? Not that these all sound the same, but is it something for UK rock fans to get excited about or not?
