ooh, they're american but completely within a lineage of british pop-punk indie from what i can tell

like, splitting the los campesinos/danananaykroyd/bearsuit difference with aplomb

haha a lot of the things i like get connected back to los campesinos; i don't really hear that personally but then i kinda struggle with analogues for this band anyway. brand new? there's some blink here?

anyway broke down and made this thread because their new album rules, but also i decided to check out their first album from 2008 expecting it to be only a kinda half-formed version of the ideas fully explored on bury a dream and unimagined bridges, but it's nearly as good as those two!

yh that's cool stuff but I swear he is affecting a british accent

I think I would like this two to three times more if they sang in British accents :/

"Deconstruct You" has that clean melodic pop-punk vocal style that I somehow find a thousand times more insufferable than the whiny nasal Green Day pop-punk vocal style [shrug emoticon]

yeah that is unfortunately the dominant aesthetic of this band

"Driver Friendly" is a bit better (shouty group vocals >>> frontman vocals), and I could easily see myself falling hard for a well-crafted album of similar stuff

the Los Campesinos! comparison is definitely on-point

wiki calls them a "rock band with horns" but I'm not hearing any so far? oh wait there they are (listening to "Messidona")

i've talked about this in the emo thread but i think records are incredibly produced given that they're an austin band no one really knows about, and their guitar tones are like totally gleaming & phosphorescent

and i felt dubious about the horn section for a few seconds but they're really intelligently and environmentally arranged into the songs

most of my favorite bands in this genre have two vocalists, and i really like how driver friendly use two sort of identical singers to explore simultaneous yet digressionary rhythms which also tend to recombine and add momentum to each other? again kinda like early brand new.

I definitely hear the Dananananakroyd here, which is nice since I loved that band's first album, the second not so much.
