HEY! WHAT DO I POLL (Stevie Lee Woods on Life in these United States)

I spent Memorial Day weekend in Baltimore for Maryland Deathfest, during which most of our downtime was spent on our airbnb houseboat watching the only television channel the satellite picked up—ZUUS Country. This was wonderful because it's been a minute since any of us had been following the country charts. Among the highlights (e.g. The Band Perry "Chainsaw"), lowlights (Thomas Rhett "Get Me Some of That"), and sources of intra-boat controversy (Brantley Gilbert "Bottoms Up") was the truly bizarre "Hey! What Do I Know?" by Stevie Lee Woods:

Each time it came around in rotation we became more fascinated by this hit outside of time, and nearly two months later I still can't stop thinking about it—particularly the variety of things Woods "never thought" would come to pass. But hey! What do I know? So I put it to you:

Still unconvinced they didn't shoot this video on the set of thirtysomething

That said I gotta vote for the "burgers" line since this is clearly a personal bugbear of Mr. Woods rather than an indictment of overarching cultural trends

went with animal clones, since last time i checked those things weren't exactly roaming around all over the place - but hey, what do i know

Last I checked animal clones were news 20 years ago.

Salad bars are from the 70s or something right? Do those even exist anymore? There's one in my office cafeteria, but not in any restaurant I've been in recently.

yeah, super good point - if stevie lee thinks burgers are a thing of the past, he needs to read the rolling chain restaurant innovations thread already!

i was on the houseboat as well, and if i remember my stevie lee woods arcana correctly, his only other brush with country fame was circa '93, so it's entirely possible that he's been sitting on these hot takes since then
