Same beat, different songs, which is better?

"Best of My Love" all the way. Earth, Wind and Fire were the backing band, weren't they?

TS: Being force-fed tepid baby food or having alarm clocks glued to your ears.

Oh whoops, I was thinking of The Eagles' "The Best of My Love".

"Same beat" = a bit misleading. Anyways, 'Got To Be Real'! Catchy cyclical simplicity that I can move to that little bit better. Also, if you take sides on modernisations, 'Best Of My Love' is an disappointing Javine song and 'Got To Be Real' is an asskicking, uber-catchy electroclash bomb.

They both rock, especially when played back-to-back by a good DJ.
(By the way, who remembers Ladycop's awesome house remake of "Got To Be Real"?

"Got to Be Real," no question, though "That's the Joint" might trump both.

The Good Dr. Bill (Andrew Unterberger), Thursday, 26 August 2004 17:34 (nineteen years ago) link

Well, Cheryl Lynn's histrionics are fun, but "Best Of My Love" wins 'cause the backing musicians were Earth, Wind & Fire instead of Toto. I had an 8-track sampler with a slightly longer version of "Got To Be Real". After the singing fades, the band continues playing for a minute, and I swear it's some of the deadest, un-funkiest bits of alleged disco (or music) ever.

It's true, Cheryl and the loop are the best things about it, but when it's on, it's the bomb diggy.

Haha, guess which one of these is playing as I type!

Heard "Best of My Love" on Lite Radio today...but I'm going with "Got to Be Real" beause I've heard it less.

Mark (MarkR), Thursday, 26 August 2004 19:14 (nineteen years ago) link

I'll have to play them both again to decide, but damn if these aren't two of the most joyously giddy songs ever to rip out of a radio speaker. I love that sound so much I'm also going to play "This Will Be" just to make sure.

"Emotion"

dave q, Thursday, 26 August 2004 20:06 (nineteen years ago) link

Whoa, I never thought of that!

Mike Ouderkirk (Mike Ouderkirk), Friday, 27 August 2004 00:58 (nineteen years ago) link

Mariah's "Emotions" is a blatant homage to / ripoff of "Best Of My Love".

"got to be real" easy
