Nice. The BIS mixes by Horse Meat Disco and Optimo's Twitch should be better though. Disappointed with Aeroplane when I saw them DJ at Electric Picnic.

Hush! Fie, you!
That said, they were AMAZING at Field Day, and then Erol totally outdid them at the aftershow. So they can vary, even within the stretch of one day. (But I would feel sorry for anyone that had to go on after Disco3000 so I should cut them some slack for that.)
― girls just wanna have mixtapes (Masonic Boom), Friday, 18 September 2009 11:18 (fourteen years ago) link
I'm willing to bet a sizeable amount that the Optimo mix will be the best of those three.
Not sure about the Au Revoir Simone remix, it feels a bit rushed, both in that it sounds a bit cobbled together and also that it could do with being about three minutes longer.

Oh crap, I missed this cause I assumed it wasn't about my Belgian fucks.
Das Pop - Fool For Love (Aeroplane Remix)
One of my fave (Belgian) pop songs.

ha, they're on directly before Disco 3000 in Sydney in two weeks (preceded by Junior Boys, preceded by Joakim)

Is that that Parklife tour thing? Ha ha, yeah, I think they learned their lesson.
But Aeroplane directly -> Disco 3000 would just be incredible.
I want an aErolplane back to back but it's never gonna happen. Except in my dreams. Though you never know.

― plax (I know, right?), Friday, 18 September 2009 20:52 (fourteen years ago) link
It was a total fanboy crowd huddled at the front and ppl were shouting for Williams Blood at the end, was kinda funny!
also, i think maybe I saw aeroplane back in 2007, because apparently they used to dj makeup club in ghent around the time i used to go there when I was on erasmus? drinks were expensive there.
― plax (I know, right?), Saturday, 19 September 2009 01:31 (fourteen years ago) link
makeup club? did you ever go to the culture club? it's been (*sigh*) years since i went out in ghent.
― Nathalie (stevienixed), Sunday, 20 September 2009 18:48 (fourteen years ago) link
ghent is awesome to go out in but I don't know the names of most of the places we used to go except there and a bar with a tent for a ceiling that had jazz in the back in a little sitting room and was run by this imperious looking bald woman and also somewhere called pink flamingoes.
― plax (I know, right?), Sunday, 20 September 2009 18:55 (fourteen years ago) link
Ghent is so awesome though, I have a friend who lives in brussels and if I have a little cash when the luc tuymans/ ai wei wei thing is on in Bozar I'm gonna go over and hit Ghent one night.

NOOOO! NEVER ENOUGH MIXES!!!!
However, it is time for them to finish that album of theirs.
Hang on, how are they on BiS, and on tour in Australia AT THE SAME TIME?!?!? The power of the internets.
― I Like Daydreams, I've Had Enough Reality (Masonic Boom), Thursday, 1 October 2009 09:30 (fourteen years ago) link
well they are clearly spending more time making mixes than making remixes, esp considering that lackluster au revoir simone thing
― psychgawsple, Thursday, 1 October 2009 10:03 (fourteen years ago) link
I don't understand why the interrupted working on their album to go tour Australia for a month. I blame Erol Alkan.

― Dandy Don Draper (sic), Tuesday, 6 October 2009 14:35 (fourteen years ago) link
Erol and Joakim are only lip synching. Or stick-synching as the case may be. What is the point of them? ;-)
― ...and the wizard blew his horn (Masonic Boom), Tuesday, 6 October 2009 14:38 (fourteen years ago) link
Joakim brought Erol a beer behind the decks at the Disco 3000 club show on Sunday, I guess that's the point of him at least
― Dandy Don Draper (sic), Tuesday, 6 October 2009 14:50 (fourteen years ago) link
(Junior Boys' drummer soundchecked by playing along with Joakim's records during the day though, I was disappointed when he stopped!)
― Dandy Don Draper (sic), Tuesday, 6 October 2009 14:53 (fourteen years ago) link
No wonder Busy P and Erol and Joakim have been hanging out so much on this tour. They're probably the only men in that scene in whose company the other one never has to worry about feeling like a shortarse.
Didn't Joakim take along his own drummer? WHen I saw him a few weeks ago, he had the full band with him, and they were discotastic.
― ...and the wizard blew his horn (Masonic Boom), Tuesday, 6 October 2009 14:56 (fourteen years ago) link
nah, was originally announced as band, but in the end he was just DJing :(
what a disaster for Tiga
― Dandy Don Draper (sic), Tuesday, 6 October 2009 14:59 (fourteen years ago) link
Tiga comes up to, like, Erol's kneecap. I was actually quite shocked when I found out that Busy P is even *taller* than Erol. I thought Erol was the tallest guy in teh world except for, like, that 10 foot dude in China and that 11 foot Turkish dude who just came over here and posed next to Tower Bridge for laughs.
That's a shame you didn't get the full band but I suppose it's hard enough to fit that lot on the plane there was no room for anyone else.
― ...and the wizard blew his horn (Masonic Boom), Tuesday, 6 October 2009 15:04 (fourteen years ago) link
OK, I take it back, Here's one where you can actually hear Alkan - he's not that bad!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsYj6vRzn4Q
However, note how Tiga runs away when he realises he's sandwiched between Busy P and Erol - who STILL manages to be TALLER than him, even sitting down and slouching.
I'm so easily amused.

I always thought Aeroplane had gotten Au Revoir Simeone to sing on their Paris remix.
The interview says they're actually on the original Friendly Fires version all along.
― plazzTT, Thursday, 8 October 2009 14:32 (fourteen years ago) link
OMG THIS LOOKS LIKE EVIDENCE THAT JOAKIM MIGHT BE EVEN TALLER THAN "TALLEST MAN IN POP" PEDRO!

That Aeroplane remix of Paris? Coz I'll punch anyone that disses that!
or comparing the relative heights and smashabilities of the DJs on the Parklife tour? Don't be silly. I respect them all for their remixes. Their smashability and L O O O N N G G ness is only the icing on the objectification cake.
