the music yeah blah whatever but PLEASE STOP HUNCHING YOUR SHOULDERS AND BENDING YOUR ARMS AND MAKING HAND SIGNS IN YOUR VIDEOS. PRETTY PLEASE. SIGNED, AMATEURIST

amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 1 August 2003 14:04 (twenty years ago) link

I must say, the hand signs do really piss me off for some reason. As do the 'male cheerleader' spinning guitarist moves. And the choreographed synchronized jumps. And the fact that they're twins. And the fact that they're alive.

punks are SUPPOSED to piss off old conservative fogeys, remember?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 1 August 2003 15:28 (twenty years ago) link

WHY ARE THERE TWO GUITAR PLAYERS IF THEYRE BOTH GUNA PLAY THE SAME THING.

chaki (chaki), Friday, 1 August 2003 15:57 (twenty years ago) link

ROCK, AND ROLL.

amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 1 August 2003 15:58 (twenty years ago) link

because the other twin needs something to do?

the non-benjijoelunit guitar player is amazingly pretty tho, almost enough so for me to sit through that new video where the ugly twin (oh wait) (fnar fnar) tries to be missy elliot

hopefully their reference to MBV will cause hordes of 13 year-olds to flock to their local record shops and buy Loveless, so Kevin Shields can have even more equipment to screw around with but still never actually do anything.

when I found out that
they are into PETA stuff
I lost all my hate

still don't think they're much
of a much of a miccio,
but no more hate

They're the line-towing, church-goin' Bible-binding-benders, buddy boy, not me.

two years pass...
omfg. i just listened carefully to the verse of lifestyles of the rich & famous, which i always liked as a bonehead class hostility anthem. the two "rich & famous" dudes they call out are OJ and Marion Barry. now i can't help but think of them as suburbia-fetishizing crypto-racists.

damn.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Sunday, 20 November 2005 05:59 (eighteen years ago) link

I think SFJ pointed that out a while back and Anthony observed that it's more likely they were taking it from a Chris Rock bit. Which doesn't neccessarily mean they aren't crypto-racists, but thought you'd like to know.

i'm pissed it took me so long to notice.

i just googled up the sfj thing and he's v. otm. i mean.. marion barry!? like of all the fucking things to pick.

They still suck.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 20 May 2006 22:28 (eighteen years ago) link

They're still Christian Punk

Chris Bee (Cee Bee), Saturday, 20 May 2006 23:16 (eighteen years ago) link

i mean.. marion barry!? like of all the fucking things to pick.

they're from the dc area (referenced elsewhere on the album) and it's pretty clear both rips are directly taken from Bring The Pain, which is more a sign of a lack of imagination than crypto-racism.

this remains one of my favorite albums of the last decade, possibly my favorite actually successful one. I wish recent stuff inspired me to be so ridicously passionate.

ant@work.com, Saturday, 20 May 2006 23:38 (eighteen years ago) link

really, anybody who goes "OMG racism!" at that song is just saying they watch less Chris Rock than the Madden Brothers do.

ant@work.com, Saturday, 20 May 2006 23:49 (eighteen years ago) link

I always wondered why Chris Rock didn't call them on the swipe rather than say "Good Charlotte? more like mediocre Green Day!" when they performed on one of his VMAs. I'm guessing he never noticed the McDonalds line.
