Xxpost: mid 30’s to mid 40’s then? Lol

Xpost: In the mid 00’s there was Creamfields which started in the UK and had several 90’s acts attached to it. I’d definitely buy tickets for a 90’s thing too.

1. I've gone to my fair share of shows and I was at the right age for the peak of most of those artists and the only ones I've seen live are Modest Mouse (M&A era - my first show actually, yes I started going to shows late) and maybe Wolf Parade? I'm not sure if I've seen the latter but there's like a 65% chance I've seen them

2. so is Goldenvoice just gonna start a festival for every age demographic? have they started one for little kids yet where it's just Pinkfong headlining every night?

them jeans and more cinespace dj’s

More likely I’ll end up at the pinkfong festival nowadays

The Love the 90’s festival in Madrid just happened a week ago. Need to read some reviews on it, the lineup is sort of deliciously tacky:

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 01:37 (three years ago) link

Oh wait it seems it has been postponed to 2022

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 01:40 (three years ago) link

Here’s the updated one:

https://www-wakeandlisten-com.cdn.ampproject.org/ii/AW/s/www.wakeandlisten.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/love-the-90-madrid.jpg

I think the main problem here is that most of the artists featured are one hit wonders. I’m all in on the concept though. If you make a 90’s festival with say, Christina Aguilera, Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls headlining that shit will outsell Coachella in seconds.

Creamfields is from the ‘90s! They’ve only skipped 2021 since 1998

Oh my bad! A bit disappointed that there are not all 90’s acts! I thought that was sort of the concept of the festival!

(I mean 2020 - tickets are sold out for 2021, which is obviously very cool and fine

I feel like this Just Like Heaven festival does an amazing job of capturing the feeling of bands I’ve seen (in the mid ‘00s) and enjoyed but mostly because those were the concerts my friends wanted to go to, and they were kind of the group consensus? There are a few in the mix that were more my taste, but seeing the funnel of time winnow things down into a refined snapshot gives me a hint of nostalgia and a greater hint of “oh, this is what it feels like”

mh, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 15:19 (three years ago) link

This fest looks bad-ass, basically the ultimate throwback line-up of acts that long ago perfected the 45-minute long cash-in festival set.

The Once Upon A Time In LA Fest, a one-day throwback rap and R&B party, might have 2021's best festival lineup https://t.co/HKqKwBBrO0 pic.twitter.com/x05BjA7leR

Is “Draked” a Drake tribute band?

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 18:33 (three years ago) link

Dra-ked Edge

(it actually appears to be Drakeo The Ruler, who I’ve never heard of)

ten man poland chasing this means hamsik feasts (breastcrawl), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 18:50 (three years ago) link

that's Drakeo The Ruler, recently released from a couple of years being held in solitary in a supermax prison on completely fictitious "rapping about murder" charges, hours after the DA prosecuting him was voted out.

The case of Drakeo the Ruler embodies everything fucked up, morally reprehensible, & systematically racist about the US criminal justice system.

If you're just following this case, they've locked up Drakeo's entire rap crew on charges ranging from murder to commercial burglary & vandalism. Using fascist gang and conspiracy laws, they're holding them w/out bail and trying to use their lyrics against them in court.

The D.A. isn't even saying that Drakeo committed the murder in question, or even ordered it. They're claiming that because he went to a party with the alleged intent to kill someone (and didn't do it), he's culpable for everyone's crimes who he went to the party with.

The D.A. is claiming that the Stinc Team, one of the best LA rap crews ever is a gang & by rapping about the Stinc Team, Drakeo's songs are recruitment advertisements for "the gang." Therefore, he's also guilty of any crime anyone in the Stinc Team commits. It's absolute insanity.

Anyway, free the ruler and the whole Stinc Team. Cold Devil stays the best rap album of the last two years. Fuck the LAPD and the LA Sheriff's Department, etc.

It should be unreal that this shit could still happen in 2019 but here we are.

i find it funny that these festivals that have been discussed in this thread for the past day or so cater towards a demographic that is increasingly wary of festivals

Hmm. Can you expand on that?

expanding on that to be as succinct as possible: we're all getting older and festivals aren't as fun as they used to be once you're old

For sure - no one’s camping overnight to see Interpol and Wolf Parade, but a day at the Rose Bowl sounds like fun.

just four headliners, that’s not a lot:

“Great White” Vince Neil
“Third Eye Blind” Bret Michaels
Goo Goo Dolls & Gin Bottoms
“Big & Rich” Rodney Atkins

“Dak Jam” because... Dakota?

ten man poland chasing this means hamsik feasts (breastcrawl), Tuesday, 29 June 2021 17:10 (three years ago) link

that looks dire

the local paper said this of a recent Vince Neil gig at a similar festival

The band started out with "Looks That Kill" and transitioned to "Dr. Feelgood," where Neil forgot some of the lyrics to one of Crue's most famous songs.

"I felt physical pain watching this," said one commenter on a clip of the performance posted to YouTube.

And the show didn't get better as the night went on. When performing a cover of the Beatles' "Helter Skelter," Neil struggled to keep up with the song's tempo and lyrics. Commenters pointed out that the singer was reading the lyrics off of a printed out sheet of paper taped to the stage, and joked that the 60-year-old singer still wasn't able to keep up.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 29 June 2021 17:53 (three years ago) link

One of the saddest anecdotes in The Dirt was about Vince Neil trying to start a riot at one of his solo concerts so it would get cancelled and he could make it to the local strip clubs before they closed.

if i were more cool i might know some of the supporting acts but since i'm not and i don't it's fun to think of them as just people the poster designer/festival organizer knows who volunteered to get onstage and noodle around before the bands arrive

"gayle's gonna do a monologue from her one-woman show! and lanie, she's bringing her ukelele, it's gonna be lit!"

and they're just up there on a huge bare stage in the bleak afternoon sunlight, rocking out, crowd going apeshit

Did a quick review of setlist.fm's entries for Vince Neil in the mid-to-late 90s. One of the places he played was in a strip mall next to a carpet store and another has since become a standalone gyros shop.

peace, man, Tuesday, 29 June 2021 23:53 (three years ago) link

Christ, he played at the Tumble Inn in Eckerman, Michigan (now Eckerman Self-Storage). That's in the Upper Peninsula and it's not even Marquette! It's kinda impressive that he made inroads so deep into nowhere.

the semi-local (small town a 45 minute drive from me) festival Vince Neil played at was some combination family arts&crafts, fishing derby, car show thing. The other musical acts were Great White and Night Ranger

not that late may 2021 was a prime time for live music, however

Yeah, I mean like, I realize that he was there because his career had hit the absolute skids, but way cool for people in the UP who got to see Neil in their town with a population under 400.
