It's a cool song, though I like the "How to Draw" half a little more. There's still a lot of songs in the back half of this album I can't really get into tho. Wish I could hear what you all hear in "Inside Your Mind". But others have grown a lot on me: "Sincerity is Scary" and "It's Not Living" are A+. So generous that this band continues to throw bones like "It's Not Living" to fans like me that adore the first album most

Bon Iver must be lying in a ditch somewhere in the woods, wrapped up in fetus position and bawling his eyes out, because he knows he'll never write a song as gorgeous as 'I Couldn't Be More In Love'.

My brain has inserted a nonexistent Common verse at the end of Sincerity is Scary. 2 decades of Soulquarian conditioning at work.

I was browsing in a shop a couple of days ago and they had 'She Way Out' blasting out really loud, and it actually sounded amazing at that volume. It got me revisiting the first album again.

― k3vin k., Saturday, 19 January 2019 21:51 (five years ago) link
and I realised that while Healy has become a much better singer since and there's moments on the record that make me wince a bit on the vocal front, the album is packed with bangers.
― Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Saturday, 19 January 2019 22:00 (five years ago) link
I think Healy sings some of these songs better live nowadays. I really hated 'Chocolate' until I heard a recent live version, and the way they start that song off live with just the interlocking guitar licks is a neat touch!
― Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Saturday, 19 January 2019 22:07 (five years ago) link
'M.O.N.E.Y.' sounds great live tol. At this point, it's only really the closing track that I can't really get into.
I wish 'You' had been on this album.

"m.o.n.e.y." live was incredible, i wish they still played it
and "head.cars.bending" ofc but i've given up on that

They piss off xgau apparently:
I think they suck, and having streamed the new one at least three times without retaining anything but the internet skit will only consider explaining why for a minimum of a buck a word--as I just said, I don't do pans anymore. Congratulations, however, for not calling them a "rock band." Rock bands still oughta, you know, rock (for better or worse--here's to you, Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age). I note as well that you are not from the United Kingdom, the spawning ground of the 1975 delusion. Don't let me stop you--stick to what you believe. But don't kid yourself if you find your faith faltering.

I hate to admit it it but “love it if we made it” has found it way into my head and I’ve played it non stop this week.

Popped into my head this morning too! Clear highpoint of this album cycle imo
― imago, Sunday, 27 January 2019 08:52 (five years ago) link
I was just rewatching the video of it from the O2 linked above. Even though I was anticipating it for the whole week before it still completely blew me away live.

I posted that upthread two weeks ago! But I guess I used a mobile link and it didn't embed.
But yeah it's great, they (unsurprisingly) use it as the backdrop when they play it live and it works really well.

My appreciation of that one has only increased - I thought it was a bit formless on first listen, but over time I've realised just how cathartic it is to bellow along to.

The back half of the album ('Inside Your Mind' to 'I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes)') has become my favourite part of the album now.

I saw them last weekend in Buenos Aires. It was really, really good. A very trimmed down setlist, no instrumentals, just a non-stop barrage of hits. Matt looked way better than the last time, much more engaged with the audience than in 2017. The projections are amazing, they've really upped the ante with the production values this time. The final performance is "Sex" and it's in-fucking-credible.
There's a recording of the performance here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSqH_95uAVI&t=1748s. You guys over the equator are in for a treat with this tour.

worth noting over here, i guess, that their Coachella performance was absolutely 10/10
― alpine static, Monday, 15 April 2019 06:35 (five years ago) link
I didn't catch the Coachella performance as it would have been silly o'clock in the morning in the UK when it was broadcasted, I'll wait until someone inevitably whacks the set up on Youtube.
Fingers crossed that there's no elevator muzak pseudo cocktail jazz on the new record, and it's all '80s style bangers, shoegazy goodness and IDM freakouts.

They are one of the most mysteriously great sounding live acts since Phoenix. I mean, just literally, how good they sound, for four or five dudes and what they're doing. I assume there must be some sort of audio magic at work, but it's subtle, if it's even happening.
