I really enjoy this record. That famous riff sounds like the guitar equivalent of a jammed copier machine. Some of the other songs have good Ed K moments too.

Just had one of those "Oh, that song!" moments revisiting this. First time in over 20 years.

Now listening to seriously fake-R.E.M. opening cut "Rattlesnake". '...laughing gas and ennui' indeed.

I enjoyed Secret Samadhi at the time, it was enjoyable pop, albeit nowhere near as immediate or ear-wormy as Throwing Copper. it had to do since I wanted to start buying extreme metal albums but since I didn't have a job and they'd be buying me any music, my mother and father would literally read the entire lyric books of every album I bought, and if they saw something they didn't like, I got an earful, and I didn't wanna get grounded for "tricking" them. so Live would have to do.

I remember being so starved to hear good music in the mid-90s, pre-mp3 explosion, I used to call 1-800-MusicNow, which was some music ordering service, and they'd let you say a band's name, and choose an album, and they'd play short snippets from 4 or 5 songs. I actually played it on speakerphone for several bands one day and recorded these snippets.

i listened to this record for the first time when i was 15 and thought it had the worst lyrics of all time but the record was still kinda tight despite that. still feel that way about early live tbh

just an fyi"lakini's juice" is only a hilarious karaoke choice if the people in your group are all 30-40 years old. it is completely lost on young millennials and zoomers or whatever
