Listen to Slide and Heatstroke by Calvin Harris. You might like them better and it seems he's doing a full album of g-funk inspired jams.

I actually think Rollin is my least favorite of the three singles so far.
― dance cum rituals (Moka), Monday, 29 May 2017 14:17 (seven years ago) link
ok, I will check these out. thanks !
― AlXTC from Paris, Monday, 29 May 2017 14:21 (seven years ago) link
Also I know he's not liked at all over here but this one seems to be a decent summer hit and I love it if only for the moodymann sample:
Drake - Passionfruit.
― dance cum rituals (Moka), Monday, 29 May 2017 14:27 (seven years ago) link
oh yes, that one I know and like a lot !it would be a perfect summer hit imo but I'm not sure it's a hit so far (or has even been released as a single) ?
― AlXTC from Paris, Monday, 29 May 2017 14:33 (seven years ago) link
Afaik it's huge in spotify which seems to be the easiest global metric to use nowadays.
On the US charts it peaked in 8. I'm starting to hear it in Mexico... I don't think it will have the same impact over here as One Dance did but I like it better. One Dance had that syncopated reggaeton/dancehall beat which latin audiences go crazy for which explains its success over here... Passionfruit's backing track is more like lush house and it's overall a more subtle song.
― dance cum rituals (Moka), Monday, 29 May 2017 14:41 (seven years ago) link
hum. I like both but I might prefer One Dance as a summer jam (at a party). Passionfruit has something more subtle indeed (and sad, I might add), a bit like Hold On. More of an after party vibe !
― AlXTC from Paris, Monday, 29 May 2017 14:46 (seven years ago) link
Wow Heatstroke is great !That's what I'm talking about !
― AlXTC from Paris, Monday, 29 May 2017 15:25 (seven years ago) link
Yeah that might be the best for me so far. Might as well add it to the playlist.
Calvin harris - Heatstroke

so these Calvin Harris singles are pretty strong. I find "Heatstroke" is the catchiest but "Slide" and "Rollin" have a great groove. It's quite impressive to release 3 singles of that level prior to the album. He seems set to rule the summer !
― AlXTC from Paris, Tuesday, 30 May 2017 13:06 (seven years ago) link
aw ok, apparently that's nothing new for him...
Harris currently holds the record for the most top 10 songs from one studio album on the UK Singles Chart with nine top 10 entries, surpassing Michael Jackson. In October 2014, he became the first artist to place three songs simultaneously on the top 10 of Billboard's Dance/Electronic Songs chart

eheh, yeah, although I didn't really know him before this thread (as I said, I'm disconnected from the mainstream ! I'm even surprised to find out it's a brit making these rnb songs...), I sense there might be something VERY not cool in enjoying stuff by him...but what can I say, these 3 tracks ARE good !
― AlXTC from Paris, Wednesday, 31 May 2017 08:22 (seven years ago) link
Might as well also give my apology: As I said before I haven't liked anything by Calvin Harris prior to these singles. I'm not mindblown about them but him suddenly doing this breezy g-funk found out of nowhere is a nice surprise and I really like that sound it still hasn't beaten to death in my ears (had he even hinted at it before? I don't remember any of his previous singles sounding like this)
I'll have to admit he's really good at using his guest spots in every single I've heard of him tho even the annoying ones.
― dance cum rituals (Moka), Wednesday, 31 May 2017 13:36 (seven years ago) link
he has some ok filter house tunes, and 'we found love' is one of the best songs ever. he'll probably go to heaven.

You guys are also giving Calvin Harris much more hate than what he deserves. It's not like he's killing puppies, he just makes crappy music and there's much more worse offenders like say, her ex-gf.
