I prefer A Future Lived in Past Tense btw.
And all you Juno fans: do check out Fireside's Elite. They're like the Swedish Juno. Awesome and epic.

So for the poll itself, what criteria are we voting on? Say there's an album I absolutely love (Unwound, or Hoover) but in no way consider emo. Do I still vote for it? Are we voting for canonical emo albums, or just a sort of "these are my favorites of the bunch" thing?

Ozma - Rock and Roll Part Three
― ArchCarrier, Tuesday, 14 February 2017 15:31 (seven years ago) link
Do what U feel Evan. I'm not voting for albums I love that I don't think fit the bill, personally. Other than that I'm just submitting what I like.
― Spottie, Tuesday, 14 February 2017 15:33 (seven years ago) link
As with the yearly metal poll I just let the poll runner decide what's eligible (some borderline/negligible things inevitably slip through) but ultimately I just vote for what I like on the list, personally.
― ultros ultros-ghali, Tuesday, 14 February 2017 15:33 (seven years ago) link
the unwound record is one of my absolute favorite records of all time and i will not be voting for it in this poll lol

sparta's porcelain is probably the earliest recorded instance of me being obsessed with an emo album even though it doesn't resemble any of the emo that was actually popular at the time
― the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Tuesday, 14 February 2017 16:02 (seven years ago) link
vastly preferring Sparta to The Mars Volta was a major act of contrarianism at the time iirc

I'm imagining explaining someone at my local DIY hardcore/emo space ca 1995 that we've reached a point where, unlike Built to Spill, Hoover can in no be considered way emo.

someone nominated the s/t hoover ep so i needed to balance that out with lurid traversal but i guess i'd agree they're not emo (but then fugazi were nominated, so!)

Fwiw, Hoover is described as emo in the first sentence of their Wikipedia entry, listed twice among the top emo records of all time at fourfa, described as a definitive example of the first wave of DC emo in this book, and listed among the essential emo albums on RYM.

the poll of wacky but hooky rock albums
very amused that amid the flood of nominations—two Rainer Maria records, the second Jets To Brazil record, three Motion City Soundtrack records (no judgement)—not a single Joan of Arc/Owens/Owls LP has been nominated
― Evan R, Tuesday, 14 February 2017 16:21 (seven years ago) link
the second Jets To Brazil record
excuse me it's the third
i have never successfully gotten to the end of a joan of arc record. surely american football counts as technically nominating a record in that spectrum though
