I like A Future Live in Past Tense just as much despite (because of?) being maybe the most overblown independent rock record of the 00s

I'm willing to stan for that one. Except for the spoken word track that's a wonderful album.

So for the poll itself, what criteria are we voting on? Say there's an album I absolutely love (Unwound, or Hoover) but in no way consider emo. Do I still vote for it? Are we voting for canonical emo albums, or just a sort of "these are my favorites of the bunch" thing?

sparta's porcelain is probably the earliest recorded instance of me being obsessed with an emo album even though it doesn't resemble any of the emo that was actually popular at the time

vastly preferring Sparta to The Mars Volta was a major act of contrarianism at the time iirc

i loved both for different reasons! sparta held up better tho

i regret only getting into further seems forever's hide nothing after jon bunch died but i love that album so much, it is PACKED with hooks

I'm imagining explaining someone at my local DIY hardcore/emo space ca 1995 that we've reached a point where, unlike Built to Spill, Hoover can in no be considered way emo.
