back in sept (and with 'darlin' before) i couldnt see what target & danny weed saw in rereleasing, i mean the tune remains forever a marvel but the context seemed long gone. i know better now - it was always a hidden jackin nation, never just yorks and mids - look at that towie/geordie shore video. over the last few months i've become addicted to this:

which blends a certain strain of current top 40 (analogous to kiss fresh daytime) with pure distilled wite flite banter, geezers all called dean raised on big chunky sugary sweet tooth pop garage breakbeat and 2step. this is a proper regulated fm dial station that plays richie dan 'call it fate', deetah 'relax (b&f mix)', blowfelt 'back up back up' at 2 in the afternoon

(it is also producing nothing whatsoever in terms of interesting new music but just anthropologically it's a rush)

apart from maybe b-grade grizzle 'come down' u will never want to hear any of it again

well my first listen was last night when I bunged all the tracks into vdj, notched up the tempo and mixed through them, so that probably helped. i generally don't listen to these sort of things as albums anyway, just collections of tracks to dj with. the only one i actively disliked was 'we are', 'sleep talk' seemed like a highlight.

skippit is a mosh-bass-grime etc producer from southampton who i might have characterised as a delinquent younger sibling to royal-t - iirc he came to brief prominence late '14 with a whirring monster re-edit of flava d's 'in the dance' and for the most part has carried on in that marginal bootleg vein since

dj shadow interview samples and dusty breaks are the super extreme outlier obv but it's interesting to think of og jackin's morbidly amused chuck-it-in magpie restlessness resurfacing in whatever this current yoof scene is

just as an NB jclc, the 'jacking house' in that mix is the old-school chicago-style definition. this thread is about the birmingham, UK centred style of housey bass-driven garage with big nasty ring-filter sounds on the bassline

one of those extremely confusing bits of nomenclature, like the two quite different genres 'afrobeat' and 'afrobeats'
