jesus christ already I'll say it again.

We Did It Again by the Soft Machine totally owns.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 24 May 2004 16:14 (twenty years ago) link

"Life's So Short" repeats the title over and over, but ends with "Life's so short - so don't waste it!"

Yeah, I know. The song's really over by the time he says that, though-- it's more like a send-off than anything else.

Daft Punk's "Musique" is another example, right?

And yeah, "We Did It Again" is the clear winner for this thread, although I may be thinking of the Bongwater version when I say that.

Frankie Laine - Rawhide

I really don't think most dance music should be allowed, there's too many songs that are just one thing repeated. After all...it's time for the percolator

I keep wanting to say "What You Do To Me" by Teenage Fanclub, but that has one other line too. It's still a damn sight nearer than "World Shut Your Mouth" - that's not even the only lyrics to the chorus...

salsoul orchestra - (ooh i love it) love break
=>(not even all of the title is in the song)

also
salsoul orchestra - chicago bus stop (sorta the same thing, they only say "Do the bust stop")

and why would you take dance music out? then you'd be left with mostly just a buncha crappy prog rock things :-p

rentboy (rentboy), Monday, 24 May 2004 17:19 (twenty years ago) link

erm, that should be "do the bus stop"

(though 'bust' works quite well in there, on second thought)

I vote for "Jackals, False Grails:the Lonesome Era" even though the one line is actually "I've got one holy life to live" and not in fact the song's title, but what the hell

"house of jealous lovers" comes pretty close

You have to remember that the full title is "House of Jealous Lovers (SHAKE DOOOOOOOOWN)" which means it definitely counts.

Nomeansno, "Joy"
Butthole Surfers, "Hay" (tho not "Hey")
Judas Priest's "Defenders Of The Faith" counts, if you pretend it's actually called "(We're All) Defenders Of the Faith"

Sly & the Family Stone's "Don't Call Me Nigger, Whitey" comes pretty close.

Except that the inversion is the whole point of the song!

But what about "Wipe Out"?

"She Was a Visitor"-Robert Ashley
Oh, sorry, that's not a "song."

Well, in that case how about the version by Minimal Man.

Its not the title, but Aphex Twin's Come to Daddy just goes I WANT YOUR SOUL over and over. Thats oddly all I can think of, for some reason one line songs dont pop into my head, even though when I read others already listed I go "oh yeah that one". Weird.

Morrissey almost does with Dagenham Dave:

Dagenham Dave Dagenham Dave Dagenham Dave
Dagenham Dave Dagenham Dagenham
Dagenham Dave Dagenham Dave Daegnahm Dave
Dagenham Dave Dagenham Dagenham Dave
Dagenham Dave Dagenham Dave
Oh Dave Oh Dagenham
Dagenham Dagenham Dave
Dagenham Dave Dagenham Dave
Oh Dave Oh Dave Oh Dave Oh Dave

I've always wondered what that lyric looked like written down. And now I know.

Seven Ways To Love - Cola Boy feat Janie Lee
I Can't Take The Power - Offshore
Injected With A Poison - Praga Khan
Get Ready For This - 2 Unlimited

The top 40 in 1991-3 seemed to be comprised almost entirely of songs with only one line sung over and over. This was partly due to the attempted European unification of the UK charts by pilled-up Belgian techno-heads.

'Injected With A Poison' features more than just the title - maybe you're thinking of Digital Orgasm's 'Running Out Of Time'?. i was going to say 2 Unlimited but there are a lot of 'YEAHs!' 'I Can't Take The Power' is a good one tho.

Of course, Running Out Of Time! That's exactly what I was thinking of. Injected With A Poison said "we don't need this anymore".

On the ITV Chart Show they were "Digital O" because orgasms are kind of rude.
