The single version of La Bionda - I Wanna Be Your Lover (but apparently not the album version)
Dee Dee Jackson - Automatic Lover (sounds like a spaceship anyway but might just be ~futuristic sounds~ more generally)

Sorry, that should be Dee D. Jackson.

I guess that's a spaceship at the start of Prism's "Spaceship Superstar." A bit subdued.
― lingereffect (Kent Burt), Sunday, 23 October 2016 20:39 (seven years ago) link
There must be songs by Stereolab that have this. Also Acid Mothers Temple, although maybe every song of theirs has this sound, which is the best one to pick.
― Madame Bob George (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 23 October 2016 20:48 (seven years ago) link
I'm sure there's at least one Be-Bop Deluxe song that does this but I can't bring it to mind. there is a sound effect at the beginning of their Live! In The Air Age album which I think is supposed to be a spaceship

The sounds at the beginning of "Children of the Sun" by Billy Thorpe are more like being passed by an already taken off spaceship.

how about "international feel"?
― mystery local boy (rushomancy), Sunday, 23 October 2016 23:18 (seven years ago) link
'International Feel' was the first thing I thought of. Dunno exactly what's taking off at the beginning of that, but whatever it is, is more likely taking off from Area 51 than Heathrow.

"International Feel," "Inca Roads" and "Space Suit" by They Might Be Giants definitely. "Countdown" has a countdown but the sound effect at the beginning is more like an atmospheric aircraft than the audio that traditionally signifies spacecraft so debatable.

Hendrix's "Exp," like "CTA-102" by The Byrds, features aliens and guitar effects to signify rocket takeoff which is not exactly the theremin-like bleeping usually utilized, but I guess we can accept.

a bunch of tracks on Buffalo Bop's space age novelty pop compilation Rockin' Orbit begin with countdowns and liftoffs, like this one from 1952:

They're listed as two consecutive tracks on Jefferson Starship's 'Blows Against the Empire', but the first, 'X-M', is basically just one and a half minutes of noise that culminates in the sound of a starship taking off as it segues into 'Starship'.

None of the songs begin with rocket sounds, but every song on Public Service Broadcasting's The Race for Space album is built on historical spaceflight samples.
