My word what a run of albums. I Kendricks was my number two. 'Just Memories' destroys me. Don't know the O'Jays at all, really. Damn this roll out is great.

Hooray for Syreeta. I'm tempted to say too low as it was my number one but honestly I never expected her to place this high. One of my favourite albums of any genre or any decade. A perfect album in every single way.

Fresh is my favourite Sly album.
Forgot to mention an album highlight for Syreeta (my parents-in-law are visiting, and I have to sneak out every 15-20 minutes to post a new album), but the two opening tracks are so very good.

I was hoping that somehow Maggot Brain wouldn't end up being the highest P Funk album on the list but it's looking very likely now unless Mothership Connection can do it.

Oops, that's the cover of the reissue. Here's the original one:

That is a surprise. I totally forgot about Shuggie being a contender even though I'm sure I voted for him.
― Kitchen Person, Friday, 21 October 2016 15:30 (seven years ago) link
i never really got the appeal of inspiration information, it's okay i guess but i don't really think is a 70s soul classic. the reissuing thing seemed to cement it as such but idgi

It's a rainy day in NYC, perfect conditions for some Shuggie
― I know hoes that know Ali Farka Toure (voodoo chili), Friday, 21 October 2016 15:34 (seven years ago) link
i think it was more like this standard reissue off-the-mark hype description of it as this "lost psychedelic soul rock classic" in the vein of jimi and it is actually a pretty sparse, spacious, and minimal soul album. maybe that's why i remember being not quite satisfied but listening now and taking it on its own terms it is pretty great

I tried to get into those Syreeta albums recently and was surprised that I didn't like them at all

I love and voted for Shuggie but it does feel like it exists in a different universe to all these great albums that people actually listened to in the 70s.
Donnie and Joe Emerson for #1?
