Suspect they might be doing something along the lines of Bandcamp -- editorial/writing work tied in with projects.

You have hired several music journalists, notably former New York magazine columnist Nitsuh Abebe. What do they do at Kickstarter?I met Nitsuh 14 years ago on a message board, and he has always been one of my favorite writers. A year-and-a-half ago, I saw him on the street and I told him I was looking for a copywriter. He has done some great longform pieces here, too -- a recent one analyzes why slim wallets are such a big thing on Kickstarter. We also have Nick Sylvester and Sam Hockley-Smith. They’re highlighting things that are happening here. As far as bigger editorial ambitions, I can say they’re working on a variety of projects.

does kickstarter do live music stuff? suprised they don't do the branded musicfest thing or something. brandon is good at the festival thing.

Death Grips just tweeted a link to this art video http://ruinsmag.com/altered-states/the-caged-pillows/ which has snippets of old songs from Daft Punk, Death Grips, etc.

Ugh, I just watched the two "explanation" videos contained within the Simpsonwave piece and I'm on irony overload. Do people actually live their lives like that? In that constant state of hyper-awareness and super smug jokiness?

idk if it is the redesign, quite possibly it is, but it seems like there has been a dramatic drop-off in quality across the site, it seems worthless to me now and i used to visit it everyday
― marcos, Wednesday, 15 June 2016 20:25 (seven years ago) link
I would say the Conde Nast acquisition has more to do with the direction of content on the site.

there's been a dramatic drop-off in quality in the stuff I've written but that is largely due to pulling my life in 500 different directions, 200 of which are outside the solar system and 250 of which are in hell

also I think, for one thing, the pitch is much better than it used to be
FWIW, I haven't noticed a drop-off in the quality of the work of writers I already admire. The main qualm for me is probably less prominence on the homepage for track reviews. Tracks now only seem to appear as news items which I think makes it a little harder to keep up with newer stuff.

i don't know how it works at pitchfork but if you see a video on a website that you don't like it's safe to assume that it was made by an entirely separate staff of people from the one that makes the website you enjoy reading

i looked at something yesterday on there and it was all about someone who may or may not have ripped some guy's song off for an apple ad and then it turned out that the guy who may have been ripped off had done apple ads and they had these pictures of apple billboards and videos of apple commercials and and all of a sudden i went heeeeeeeeyyyyyyy wait a minute did apple pay for this? it was a pretty non-news story that said the word Apple 5 million times.
