ILM's 2015 End of Year Albums & Tracks Poll / VOTING THREAD

i could get used to this polling lark

are there way more tracks nominated than previous years? i seem to remember being able to listen to the tracks playlist over a weekend in past years but this time it's 90 hours

it's saturday afternoon and i've only made it through A's and B's :|

I think it's up this year, but iirc it's traditionally been in the 1200-1300 range. (Or I may be misremembering it entirely.)

Last year's spotify playlist was 1080, this year is 1273

but i would honestly chalk that up to more songs being available on the service

My top fives have basically been solidified for ages but I'm still pretty vague on placements and even entries below that. And time creeps on.

is Gigi Masin's Talk To The Sea eligible? I see it on the Spotify playlist but not the Pastebin list

I did my tracks last weekend and I just did my albums today.

i gave up on listening to all the tracks and just voted with what i had already

^this is why I try to get my tracks nominations in early on years I gaf about tracks

(Though I think a lot of it comes from the sudden influx of decent-to-great songs rendering tasks such as ranking, and even including some into yr ballot while excluding others, into an absurd enterprise)

I listen on shuffle idk

have gained a crucial handful of great albums+trax by listening to the playlists. obv the benefit is not just to one's ballot

I sorted it by running length one year, from shortest to longest.

Grrrr.... I'm regretting my laziness in making sure some my favorite albums were nominated. I know anything not already nominated would have made it in the top 77, but I still feel weird removing some of my favorite albums of the year from my list.

I've given up on nominating weird outliers and am just voting based on the list, didn't participate in the nominations process at all.

Voted. Was happy to find that most of my top 25 had been nominated (a few by me), except for Dyke Drama and a few metal albums which didn't have a chance anyway.

There is a listing for "Sparky - Numbers" on the tracks list that I think might be faulty. The single is on the label Numbers. I am guessing that the nom is supposed to be for the track "Signals".

how do write-in votes work, do they get ignored? i noticed something didn't get nominated somehow (i guess i should have actually ctrl+F'd for it), it would be in my top 5 if i can write it in

I *tend* to allow write-in votes but it's not guaranteed and if I get a bunch at the last minute I'll probably skip them.

For every item that doesn't match the nominations list, I have to manually check whether it's a spelling mistake, if not find out what it is and decide whether it's eligible for inclusion. If I got more than a small number of write-ins I probably wouldn't bother.

the Inverso s/t album that Forks put on the playlist caught our attention. It's pretty cool! But then we looked it up…

The album on the playlist is a 2011 s/t record by INverso.

The album calzino nominated is a 2015 s/t record by InVerso.

The former is pop punk.

The latter is jazz.

Saw Helm live a few weeks ago and he was great (also, fairly friendly). The constraints of skim-listening to everything weren't kind to his album when encountered last night, but I will try to return to it, yes!

No, not heard yet. I have way more than 25 things in contention already so kind of feel like if I hear something first in '16 it shouldn't make the list, but will have a listen anyway if it's great. (And I have broken that rule in the past, definitely.)

(It's completely amazing and straight in my own top 5 fwiw)

Last-minute plug for some of my noms that are not on Spotify:

Zomes - Networks Album 2: Phase Portraits: algorithmically generated electronic music that became one of my default going-to-bed choices.
ADR - Deceptionista: probably described better on the page than I could do but enjoyable Internet sample-based electronic composition

Sevish - Rhythm and Xen: microtonal IDM/chiptune stuff

All just things that somehow clicked with me; dunno how well they transfer.

Biggest discovery from going through the Spotify playlist is how amazing the Dumblonde album is.

Just finished going through the tracks list yesterday. Made a shortlist of everything I enjoyed. Just got to narrow those 146 songs down to 25 and I'm done. Albums should be a lot easier.

Whoa! RA - Scandinavia is some of the best post-punk of recent years. Utterly incendiary. Really nice nomination, uh….oh it's you, DAM. Whoda thunk etc :D
