also "champion" that wasn't on kehlani's album is a banger (and lil b! rapping properly!)

this is a song dedicated to the Warriors championship team fyi. kinda good in a novelty way i guess.

kehlani album is real nice tho.

'You Should Be Here' and 'How That Taste' are my current favs on there.

This is a quick, third-quarter reminder that all available tracks mentioned on this thread (and a handful of album selections from each listed) are being updated to the thread-specific Spotify playlist as posted. I just did another top-to-bottom sweep prior to posting this message and have revised as of today with everything that's been added since first mentioned. Subscribe if you're into it!

It's 128 tracks, over 8 hours.

i wrote about D.K. The Punisher, a Baltimore dude who produced Jill Scott's lead single and some of the SiR album:

I finally got to the Sevyn Streeter EP and holy shit.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 25 September 2015 14:59 (eight years ago) link

Listening to this now, but I gotta say I'm a tad miffed that she didn't include "4th Street," which is easily among my top 3 or 4 fave songs of the year.

The New Gay Sadness (cryptosicko), Friday, 25 September 2015 15:32 (eight years ago) link

yeah it's so annoying that people now leave great songs off of their major label albums AND off of their little stopgap mixtapes and EPs as well

basically every song so far on the finally-released tamar braxton album except for the single they put out in may ("if i don't have you") is pretty good/interesting

slothroprhymes, Friday, 2 October 2015 18:12 (eight years ago) link

(tbf i'm only 4 tracks in and this is 16 gahdamned songs for some reason, which might not go over smashingly)

slothroprhymes, Friday, 2 October 2015 18:13 (eight years ago) link

Yeah I pieced out on the Tamar by track 12, but what I heard of it was really good.

Greer, Friday, 2 October 2015 18:49 (eight years ago) link

using this sample in this way could have turned out really hackish but i think it really works -- plus that it's pop & oak makes me feel better about the intentions

also tory lanez had that great song on the YG album so

J0rdan S., Saturday, 3 October 2015 16:49 (eight years ago) link

his rappity rap follow up is kind of a regrettable direction imo but he can flow at least

J0rdan S., Saturday, 3 October 2015 16:53 (eight years ago) link

this guy's vibe is weird he did a hipster dance producer EP and is playing at Cool Brooklyn Venue baby's all right in a few weeks but then he has this traditional R&B song done by very tradition-driven producers

since he's on interscope i assume the latter will win out but i guess i could see him as a sort of test case for a brave new future where major labels try and break artists to "tastemaker" scenes first

J0rdan S., Saturday, 3 October 2015 17:06 (eight years ago) link

yeah i've been enjoying hearing "say it" on the radio. i didn't know pop & oak were involved, that's cool

dyl, Saturday, 3 October 2015 17:53 (eight years ago) link

"feat Chris Brown" is some kiss of death shit just lately but i am willing to make an exception for tinashe

Anyone disappointed with the Tamar Braxton? Starts strong, drags in the middle. Sometimes she wails like Keyshia Cole.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 11 October 2015 17:30 (eight years ago) link

it's not great but not nearly as many missteps as her last album

some dude, Sunday, 11 October 2015 20:12 (eight years ago) link

lol, keyshia sprung to mind a few times as well for me, it was very wearying to slog through. i don't think it has the highs of the last album either

btw i saw that angie stone video on vh1 soul recently and wow that song rules

apparently teyena taylor put out a throwbackish EP a few months back & i like this bass track that interpolates "swing my way" (with good rapping by iman shumpert!)

i think i'm the only person who's checked for the natasha mosley album but it's really proving to be an excellent slow burn as the winter draws in. these two mid-album tracks work so well back to back

new Tiffany Evans EP is good, albeit not as good as the one she put out in 2013

Viva la Wu Tang or Meth and All His Friends (some dude), Tuesday, 10 November 2015 12:26 (eight years ago) link

i was sort of disappointed by it, will give it another shot though

the natasha mosley album seems barely to exist - i can't find production credits anywhere (was wondering which the zaytoven ones were, and there are some amazing sparse, subtle late-night sounds on it). it's not on allmusic or even wikipedia!

couple of interesting things out this week, the mila j mixtape makes pretty good use of her sour sneer and boots has released something called aquaria which...is pretty gnarly and weird on one listen, awkward rhythms and dense production and distorted voices and a hell of a lot going on

lex pretend, Friday, 13 November 2015 19:21 (eight years ago) link

the boots thing is interesting, sounds like Beck in midnight vultures mode to me

i made a scope for my laser musket out of some (forksclovetofu), Friday, 13 November 2015 19:29 (eight years ago) link

there's something very 90s about it

some dude, Thursday, 26 November 2015 02:27 (eight years ago) link

lol alt-rock hm i guess is could be idk

johnny crunch, Thursday, 26 November 2015 02:33 (eight years ago) link

johnny crunch, Thursday, 26 November 2015 02:34 (eight years ago) link

some dude, Thursday, 26 November 2015 03:59 (eight years ago) link

not sure this "counts" as r&b but I love it

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLR3ip6v31E

Danish singer, just 16 years old - it's a break-up song, title translates to something like "you and I are in the past tense now" ("we 2 past tense now")

Comments on youtube filled with young boys complaining that she must care a lot about the boy she's thrashing in the song since she wrote an entire song about him, such provocation

WHY HAVE I BEEN SLEEPING ON MR RICO LOVE'S 'BAD ATTITUDE'?????????
