if you have ever wanted to hear a pop-punk cover of The tragically Hip, there's one on this Flatliners rarities comp:

still boring. video's cool though

dogs on acid! they're good! album out in two weeks! https://soundcloud.com/jadetree/04-the-prick/s-tXzw7

gaye byers on acid vs dogs on acid.

I know which side of that minor celeb death match I would side with

once again not reaaaalllly emo but emo-adjacent: Geoff Rickly's new band sounds great http://www.stereogum.com/1824769/no-devotion-permanent-sunlight/mp3s/

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Thursday, 20 August 2015 15:31 (eight years ago) link

oh yeah no devotion is wonderful. can't wait for that record

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Thursday, 20 August 2015 16:02 (eight years ago) link

ok these dudes from nola named donovan wolfington are about to put out a record and it's nuts http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/rock/6670374/donovan-wolfington-how-treat-ones-you-love-premiere-tour

mostly pop-punk/pop-rock but also uh straight up hardcore and doom metal songs that kinda thread in seamlessly?

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Thursday, 20 August 2015 20:23 (eight years ago) link

i gave that a listen last night and was half-paying attn and then all of a sudden shit went crazy

alpine static, Friday, 21 August 2015 01:15 (eight years ago) link

Another new Wonder Years tune, more trad emo than the others

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Friday, 21 August 2015 19:40 (eight years ago) link

finally caught up with beach slang and woooooooowwwwwww wow wow. love this shit.

slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 25 August 2015 20:40 (eight years ago) link

^^ same

they're basically what i wish the Replacements sounded like. (never really could connect w/ the Mats)

alpine static, Tuesday, 25 August 2015 21:18 (eight years ago) link

the album is wonderful and i have no idea why they sent it to me so early

you are a lucky man sir

slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 25 August 2015 21:27 (eight years ago) link

There is a new Modern Baseball song, you probably know what to expect. They're touring w/ Jeff Rosenstock and others later this year which, yes.

the Wonder Years album is quite pleasing, though I'm predictably not super into the song with the Letlive guy

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Thursday, 3 September 2015 17:34 (eight years ago) link

i haaaate letlive, no idea why they're so popular in the scene

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Thursday, 3 September 2015 17:35 (eight years ago) link

lol that is soooo refreshing to hear, they are basically unlistenable imo, and I really tried!

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Thursday, 3 September 2015 17:38 (eight years ago) link

i also love a lot of shitty metalcore and screamo and they're still a real hurdle

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Thursday, 3 September 2015 17:39 (eight years ago) link

also thk u thread for alerting me to Beach Slang, I am obsessed with "Dirty Cigarettes." also, first new male vocalist in a while I've been really struck by.

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Thursday, 3 September 2015 17:42 (eight years ago) link

like I had no idea that what I really wanted in '15 was a perfect synthesis of mid-period Mats and late Jawbreaker

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Thursday, 3 September 2015 17:49 (eight years ago) link

new wonder years is the first record by them i've liked almost all the way through

"cigarettes and saints" is still so massive

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Friday, 4 September 2015 18:19 (eight years ago) link

i actually don't mind the letlive cameo and i usually hate that dude's voice!

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Friday, 4 September 2015 18:36 (eight years ago) link

After a few more listens I think it could use a trim and resequence ("Saints" comes too early imo and 2-3 songs could be dropped painlessly) but it's def mostly solid. Little stuff like the backing vocals on "Song for Ernest Hemingway" adds a lot of character.

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Friday, 4 September 2015 18:43 (eight years ago) link

There's a pretty decent emo-pop record hiding somewhere in this fucking neverending Dear Hunter album. "Waves" is a fucking tune!

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Friday, 4 September 2015 18:46 (eight years ago) link

i listened to the 9 minute dear hunter song a few weeks ago and it was a super frustrating experience. "waves" however is a totally great and efficient answer to the question "what if jimmy eat world recorded with an orchestra"

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Friday, 4 September 2015 18:53 (eight years ago) link

not cosigning, just sharing; i'm not much of a fan of THIS IS WHAT X IS articles in general

Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Monday, 7 September 2015 01:43 (eight years ago) link

dug that brooklyn vegan article. Never really got into the Wonder Years, but I'm gonna listen to this today.

this song is NUTS

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 02:15 (eight years ago) link

mixing/mastering on the wonder years record makes it uh... very difficult to listen to

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 02:35 (eight years ago) link

that new World Is... track doesn't do anything for me at all tbh

really wish that Wonder Years article hadn't mentioned Brand New, are they actually working on that followup or just taunting us

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 03:16 (eight years ago) link

ok here's a record coming out tomorrow that i'm very enthusiastic about: milk by better off

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NAuasc_B-Y

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Tuesday, 15 September 2015 22:16 (eight years ago) link
