Trouble Come Running wuz robbed. It's top ten fer sure

kornrulez6969, Friday, 31 July 2015 18:59 (eight years ago) link

at first i did not think this song would make it, as it was not in the first draft i sent to Thermo Thinwall. what happened is some people send in ballots with just "Fitted Shirt" so when i found those songs it was of course this song will be in the Top 40.

Bee OK, Friday, 31 July 2015 18:59 (eight years ago) link

I had no idea Me and the Bean was a cover! Amazing song though, was in my top ten.

Gavin, Leeds, Friday, 31 July 2015 19:09 (eight years ago) link

"The Fitted Shirt" makes more sense as concept in the skinny jeans era.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 31 July 2015 19:16 (eight years ago) link

Fitted Shirt maybe their goofiest lyric in a career not lacking in goofy lyrics.

ledge, Friday, 31 July 2015 19:25 (eight years ago) link

of course, that's part of the charm

call all destroyer, Friday, 31 July 2015 19:26 (eight years ago) link

a huge song that is now off the board. this one did make my ballot as it's just so catchy.

Bee OK, Friday, 31 July 2015 20:13 (eight years ago) link

LOVE this song.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 31 July 2015 20:14 (eight years ago) link

as I said last week, it might be their best earworm in a decade

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 31 July 2015 20:15 (eight years ago) link

sort of cool that this is the last new song before we did this poll. it might not be their last song that they recorded but is the last song on their newest album.

Bee OK, Friday, 31 July 2015 20:44 (eight years ago) link

Also the numbering seems to have gotten off from the images around #26 just fyi

bunny slopes, Friday, 31 July 2015 20:47 (eight years ago) link

damn, thanks for that.

Bee OK, Friday, 31 July 2015 20:49 (eight years ago) link

so my 1 (Fitted Shirt) and 2 (Anything You Want) are gone.
I'm so out of step. then again, dissing a Spoon song over lyrics is a bit rich.

campreverb, Friday, 31 July 2015 20:53 (eight years ago) link

yeah this is the best.

Spottie, Friday, 31 July 2015 20:56 (eight years ago) link

"Anything You Want" ended up being my top GCT pick. Love the lyrical shoutout to the Austin Sound Exchange.

http://www.rejectedunknown.com/images/Muralpaper.jpg

...and how it sounds like he sings "Hatful of beer" instead of "Half of..."

Love, Wilco (C. Grisso/McCain), Friday, 31 July 2015 21:19 (eight years ago) link

i made my case... to the woohohorld

this would have been top 5 had I weighted my ballot. love on the second half of the song when the bass kicks in followed by the jangly ass guitar tone.

Spottie, Friday, 31 July 2015 21:23 (eight years ago) link

yeap, now there goes my number 2. incredible song.

austinato (Austin), Friday, 31 July 2015 21:48 (eight years ago) link

but the piano doesn't grate on you after like 30 seconds?

Spottie, Friday, 31 July 2015 21:51 (eight years ago) link

i've accepted this is a real love/hate song even if i lean towards the latter

da croupier, Friday, 31 July 2015 21:55 (eight years ago) link

ya - i can't deal with the piano either.

Man I love I Saw The Light

thom yorke state of mind (voodoo chili), Friday, 31 July 2015 22:26 (eight years ago) link

New York Kiss my #1.

then again, dissing a Spoon song over lyrics is a bit rich.

It wasn't a huge dis (if you mean the 'goofy' comment), but I do tend to fixate on lyrics, for better or worse, and spoon have some good ones and some pretty bad ones. Fwiw I think They Want My Soul is lyrically one of their worst, but is still my #2 album.

ledge, Friday, 31 July 2015 22:32 (eight years ago) link

lol lyrics

Spottie, Friday, 31 July 2015 22:33 (eight years ago) link

I know right

ledge, Friday, 31 July 2015 22:35 (eight years ago) link

this song is great, not sure why i left it off. love the way he sings doooo you. seems weird and fun to imitate.

Spottie, Friday, 31 July 2015 22:36 (eight years ago) link

Hawking up spit in the instrumental part of I Saw The Light C/D.

ledge, Friday, 31 July 2015 22:39 (eight years ago) link

Alright now I listen to it for the #358 time it sounds less like that and more like just a slowed down voice. Still.

ledge, Friday, 31 July 2015 22:43 (eight years ago) link

voted "Do You" as it's another catchy song on this album. TWMS has surprised me after being so disappointed with it at first.

strike that, Youtube time is wrong. now i'm wondering if there is a difference?

Bee OK, Friday, 31 July 2015 23:03 (eight years ago) link

It wasn't a huge dis (if you mean the 'goofy' comment), but I do tend to fixate on lyrics, for better or worse

haha, I am too, which is why I don't find Fitted Shirt particularly notable lyrically, positively or negatively.
I find most of their lyrics serviceable to awful, but hooks gonna hook, ya know?
