Hey what happened to Pushead?
― Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 28 June 2015 19:32 (eight years ago) link
Went into childrens book illustrating around 2003. Currently an associate designer with Slate.com.

(Actually, I have no idea: Despite his extensive and recognizable work, Pushead keeps a low profile; he has no official website and interviews with him are a rare commodity.)

didn't revisit the whole of load until after submitting my ballot and i regret not voting for "ain't my bitch"

Is the Lycos addy a '90s nostalgia thing?
― Falconetti Pot (Leee), Tuesday, 30 June 2015 20:58 (eight years ago) link
I have like six gmail addresses that show up on my screen when I'm logged out. Couldn't deal with another.
And I'm the only one who thinks For Whom The Lycos is funny, I know this, it's ok, I go to court when I have to.

I'm going to amend the poll title to indicate that it closes tomorrow. How many ballots do you have so far, pp?
― how's life, Wednesday, 1 July 2015 12:02 (eight years ago) link
Thanks for that.
Ten ballots so far – one for every member if you include Lou and Bob.

Pretty sure everything's cool, but if you submitted a ballot and did not receive a reply from me, do let me know.

Hey, I was thinking of submitting a ballot, but it depends on one thing: can I vote for "For Whom the Bell Tolls (The Irony of It All)" by Metallica & DJ Spooky from the Spawn soundtrack?
― Tuomas, Wednesday, 1 July 2015 20:42 (eight years ago) link

Tuomas - Yes, you can submit that, but it'll count toward the original version. It was officially released by Metallica though.

Just sent my ballot in. Lots of old stuff and far too many covers but in my defense Metallica did excellent covers.

i only just realized the other day that it was a top 10 hit on the Hot 100 (their only one). there will be a lot of 90s sellout 'Tallica on my ballot but definitely not "Until It Sleeps."
― some dude, Thursday, 2 July 2015 22:10 (eight years ago) link
I don't detest >1990 Metallica but including any of those songs would've bumped off a much better song of 80s Metallica.
― Siegbran, Thursday, 2 July 2015 22:23 (eight years ago) link
yeh iirc it was all over the radio
realizing now thats prob how it made my ballot lol
― difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 2 July 2015 22:25 (eight years ago) link
i admire "until it sleeps" for foregrounding its bass line but almost every song on reload is better than it

some dude and i are brothers in metallica
i will forever be grateful to Bob Rock for teaching Metallica about the values of repetition and singing like a cartoon pirate
― some dude, Thursday, 2 July 2015 23:08 (eight years ago) link
Relistening to Until it Sleeps, it's a well written song with some nice melodies and dynamics, but the guitars are piss-weak, which is unforgivable in a Metallica track.

the guitars are weak but also it's one of those times when Lars tries to play with a 'light touch' and the results are just ghastly

i love his weird single-stroke rolls here, they're a little janky in a way that's consistent every time.
i put 'Until It Sleeps' on the bottom reaches of my ballot, because the verses don't sound like anything else they've done. or maybe just because it was the first post-black album song released, and rock radio played it on the hour until i decided i liked it.
― lil urbane (Jordan), Friday, 3 July 2015 13:38 (eight years ago) link
just listened back to it for the first time in forever and wow, fretless bass and surf tremolo.
