The new Foxes is quite nice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hS53wbMt-os

not bad. i really liked her album last year, thought she deserved more attention.

some dude, Thursday, 4 June 2015 13:40 (eight years ago) link

I only discovered the Foxes album a few months ago so have been playing it a lot lately. There's also some good remixes of the singles.

Looking forward to her new album.

Also, this is great (the song not the video)

Does pop here mean "hit" and/or "Top 40"? If so, I like the current Weekend and Ne-Yo/Pitbull songs a lot, something increasingly rare for me these days. If this belongs on another thread, sorry, I'll know next time.

clemenza, Sunday, 7 June 2015 16:15 (eight years ago) link

i would say it doesn't have to be a hit, but top 40 hits like those two are def fair game

dyl, Sunday, 7 June 2015 16:50 (eight years ago) link

this is a great pop track, groovy tune,

DUDE the hilary duff album just leaked and i just finished it and it's actually pretty good! the first 3-4 tracks make for a strong opener, and the duet here is a rare one in that it's actually pretty great and essential. i suggest y'all give it a listen!

j. winters (josh), Friday, 12 June 2015 05:51 (eight years ago) link

i like the duet a lot despite his awful voice. lindy robbins writes such good melodies.
"my kind" was my fave even though it's just a weaker version of becky g's "can't stop dancing". sucker for that vibe
"breathe in. breathe out.", "arms around a memory" and "brave heart" are also all pretty good. everything else seemed pretty tragic?

adam lambert's new album is fucking incredible to me btw. mostly serious-face-pop but just sooooo well done ("another lonely night" is like the best thing i've ever heard; love the sheer drama of "rumors"). hooks on top of hooks. and then the closing bonus track "these boys" goes against that vibe entirely and it's soooo exuberant and groovy and i want to dance to it forever

uberweiss, Friday, 12 June 2015 18:56 (eight years ago) link

also "after hours" could've been on the xx's first album & i love it

uberweiss, Friday, 12 June 2015 18:58 (eight years ago) link

feel good, uptempo track

I posted about it to the Shambhala thread but it really does belong here and it is SO GOOD.

i'll take the 2 singles Hilary Duff released last year over the album she left them off of

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dA1ZmHibs4w

some dude, Sunday, 21 June 2015 00:11 (eight years ago) link

This isn'a great song but I love that the two queens of R-pop unite.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJjjzarKotI

They should make an album together. Unfortunately I haven't dug releases from either for a while.. I basically just want Inna to go back to her slightly generic romanian pop roots. Those early albums were great.

didn't know there were "chasing the sun" stans

"all about you" is great tho

"All About You" is awesome, "Chasing The Sun" is merely better than the lame album

australia's RÜFÜS are back with a big electronic house-pop track

This is a quick, quarterly reminder that all available tracks mentioned on this thread (and a handful of album selections from each listed) are being posted as updated to the thread-specific Spotify playlist. I just did a second, top-to-bottom sweep prior to posting this message and updated as of today with everything that's been added on Spotify since it was first mentioned... found about ten or fifteen new tracks for the mix. It's 60+ songs for over 4 hours of the year's chewiest pop.

currently 55 tracks, which may interest some readers of this thread.

I was looking at other productions by The Monsters And The Strangerz, who produced Jason Derulo's "Cheyenne" and Pitbull's (fairly amazing) "Fun," and I found this new Austin Mahone song that brings to mind JC Chasez's "Blowin' Me Up (With Her Love)":

"cool for the summer" would have been 'edgy' last decade or something

not really a fan of the song but admittedly the title phrase is great

Black Coast - Gold Chain ft REMMI
https://soundcloud.com/blackcoast/gold-chain-ft-remmi

bright, confident, fresh electronic pop with a superb bouncy groove production. One of the best tracks on this thread.

the singer Remmi reminds me of another vocalist, maybe Broods? someone else?

totally doesn't even sound like her but it's amazing

I heard this song yesterday during my rare occasional listens to Canadian Pop Radio.
It's very much a Lorde knock-off, but I kind of like it:

I started a Kwamie Liv thread last night which remains untouched, so I'll just drop this here since it's quickly become one of my favorite songs of the year.

Saw One Direction this past week! Fantastic concert. They were playing videos before and in between bands and I saw Olly Murs' "Wrapped Up" for the first time. Like it a lot - I see it was a fairly big UK hit. Another example of American radio's conservatism, I think.

Astrid S
Astrid Smeplass
Oslo, Norway

a sort of Norwegian Tinashe remixed in a tropical house meets euro dance-pop sound that somehow works addictively well:

Astrid S - 2AM Matoma Remix
https://soundcloud.com/matoma-official/astrid-s-2am-matoma-remix

Spotify: Astrid S - 2AM Matoma Remix
https://open.spotify.com/track/31xSeYDJvtHtODcT6iPgkb

the original track was released October 2014, but the 2015 remix has way more plays on soundcloud.

the original track is more closer to Tinashe, Tinashe obviously sung 2 On and Astrid 2am
2 seems the magic number

Astrid S - 2am

Soundcloud:
https://soundcloud.com/astridsofficial/astrid-2am

Spotify:
https://open.spotify.com/track/3Q64WkoK8h3fC9zwsvzwdD

video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8ydh5YcQ7g

so after listening to Astrid S - any fans?
