"I Can Change" = only the second best song to bite Bronski Beat, but still amazing

oof shame about that last song, but otherwise great record

the first song mentions highways and dogs and fleas and I almost threw the computer across the room

he still sounds like he studied Springsteen's "Darlington County" like a hieroglyph.
not wild about "Diggin' Up the Heart" but otherwise this sounds really good

I have to review this officially and am literally trembling w/anticipation.
― The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 15 May 2015 19:27 (nine years ago) link
This album is far better than I would have expected it to be, probably better than it has any right to be.
― boxedjoy, Friday, 15 May 2015 21:05 (nine years ago) link
"between me and you" is fantastic, wow
― ufo, Monday, 18 May 2015 12:38 (nine years ago) link
the album would be a fraction better if the title track were the closer

"Diggin' Up the Heart" is the best Kenny Loggins tribute in years

must admit I LOLed at the bruce springsteen ebooks zing
p4k's committed to a hard stance of dismissing the killers/flowers (which tbf was understandable in numerous instances), so they're not gonna walk back on that now, regardless of the fact that if twin shadow had released this album it'd be BNMed 0 to 100 real quick
― slothroprhymes, Wednesday, 20 May 2015 12:05 (nine years ago) link
also funny that the hyperlink to their 5.2 review of hot fuss happens to use the text "still-terrific debut album"
anyhoo, liked this a lot, didn't really expect to, song construction and production are great, his voice is made for this sappy synth-crooner shit, the lyrics are silly at best/atrocious at worst but it doesn't really damage the songs' overall effect
― slothroprhymes, Wednesday, 20 May 2015 12:09 (nine years ago) link
this album is great

...because you want to make something real. You want to make a Phil Collins record.
― goole, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 21:53 (nine years ago) link
i'm into this
This album is wonderful. Still Want You is my current favourite. Those backing vocals in the second verse are just everything.

did he dance
― The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 4 August 2015 13:09 (eight years ago) link
1) I haven't danced that much at a show in a long time. 2) He's such a good frontman*3) At one point he said that it was the part of the show where the audience could chose a cover from a couple they'd been rehearing. He started to list off the covers and for the first he said, "A great song called "Don't Change" by INXS" which received p much no reaction from anyone in the crowd except me who literally yelp/screamed and jumped with excitement (which made people turn around and stare at me) because that's one of the best songs ever. Sadly, they didn't play that or any of the others he listed but opted for an older song instead. I'd prob have passed out if they had done it so it's ok.4) He did a cover of a Buster Poindexter Song.5) Did I mention that he was totally fucking amazing and engaging and great?
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Tuesday, 4 August 2015 13:12 (eight years ago) link
x-post - Oh yes he did. He is the cutest dancer!

*I'm sure I've probably told this before somewhere on here but I saw The Killers open up for Stellastarr* at the Electric Ballroom in London in 2004 a couple months before Hot Fuss was released. I had no idea who they were at the time but after watching them I said, "Whoever that band is they're going to be huge - the lead singer was fucking amazing.". It's the only time I've ever been blown away by an opening act I had never even heard of. A couple months later they were on the cover of the NME etc and I was like holy shit it's that dude!

at what point did he take his clothes off?
― The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 4 August 2015 13:25 (eight years ago) link
xp yeah i saw them on that tour too, i remember thinking they felt like a one-song band (that song being 'mr brightside') but they definitely had a special ~something~ (unlike e.g. stellastarr*)
