Nah, people who go to those things go all out.

full-on house, techno, goth, cyber rave

This means psytrance and gabba, btw.

And maybe Depeche Mode and NIN pitched up.

Nah, people who go to those things go all out.

yeah you're right of course. there's a pretty big rave gear / dress-up-like-a-cyber-pirate shop in brighton and i always wonder how it keeps going - guess it's mostly nights like that. maybe i should go in there one day on some sort of psytrance mr ben adventure

let me be your fan taytay (NickB), Thursday, 26 February 2015 10:21 (nine years ago) link

every town must have a small but hardcore contingent of cybergoths and judging by the average indoor market, the clothing must be relatively cheap. the metalworks is a pretty big venue afaik, right?

Unheimlich Manouevre (dog latin), Thursday, 26 February 2015 10:27 (nine years ago) link

Not really. It's the Slimelight club. I've seen bands like Chrome & Extreme Noise Terror there. Capacity is apparently 750 though.

Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 26 February 2015 10:32 (nine years ago) link

It looks like a pound shop version of the FKA Twigs Two Weeks video, and given the Twigs crowd the other week appeared to be like 50% 20-year old lesbian goths I'd say they'd got it pretty much on-trend for their market.

Matt DC, Thursday, 26 February 2015 10:43 (nine years ago) link

ah didn't realise electrowerkz = metalworks

Unheimlich Manouevre (dog latin), Thursday, 26 February 2015 10:51 (nine years ago) link

so anyway, London FAP?

three weeks pass...

not as bad as the OP, but the '15 lollapalooza lineup is pretty dreadful.

billstevejim, Wednesday, 25 March 2015 17:14 (nine years ago) link

But, for some reason, 3 day passes appear to be sold out. Not that I'm interested or anything...

kwhitehead, Wednesday, 25 March 2015 17:23 (nine years ago) link

well yeah the 4-5 big headliners are reliable sellers, but that doesn't make it a good festival.

billstevejim, Wednesday, 25 March 2015 17:26 (nine years ago) link

Looking upthread I reckon T still wins this one, would sooner listen to metal and Macca than banterladrock any day of the week. And I really hate metal and Macca

would love it if one of these fests would sneak an aerosmith logo at the bottom just to see if anyone notices

Maybe in 100 years someone will say damn Dawn was dope. (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 26 March 2015 16:59 (nine years ago) link

poor judas priest. what did they ever do to deserve this? bush probably did something to deserve this, but i feel bad for them anyway.

billstevejim, Thursday, 26 March 2015 16:59 (nine years ago) link

I dont. Seems like they will do anything for money if they appear on that bill.

I briefly dated a woman and asked her to go to the Winnipeg Folk Fest with me, but she declined because she was going to Rockfest in Cadott instead. The relationship didn't last much longer.

one month passes...

a friend of mine lives near that and was so excited last weekend about it.
(to be fair, he will be raising money for his charity there .. so he has good reason)
i tried to feign enthusiasm, but when he said m&s i could not help but blurt out re my disgust.
that said, the very best, are a lot of fun live.

mark e, Friday, 19 June 2015 08:31 (nine years ago) link

yeah i was gonna say it's not the worst lineup in the world. i'm excited about our local festival and the headline acts there are the brand new heavies and the neville staples band, so... but i guess it's good you now get these smaller local festivals that double as community projects.

boat of boats (dog latin), Friday, 19 June 2015 09:06 (nine years ago) link

but i guess it's good you now get these smaller local festivals that double as community projects.

we have one of those near here.
the line ups have been pretty dire but it still sells out within minutes,
the whole village really loves the whole event.

mark e, Friday, 19 June 2015 09:32 (nine years ago) link

In those circumstance I think you almost don't need good bands, you just need them to be not actively terrible and for the beer to keep flowing. Ben Howard and the Mumfords would be a step too far for me, if it were on my doorstep I'd leave for the weekend.

Matt DC, Friday, 19 June 2015 10:20 (nine years ago) link

good point. few people go to our local fest because of the acts - they go because it's got a reputation for being a lot of fun, although i can imagine a known headliner helps justify the entrance fee.

boat of boats (dog latin), Friday, 19 June 2015 10:24 (nine years ago) link

Yeah this weekend there's this annual Fête de la Musique street festival thing here in town, the (dozens of) bands and DJs are uniformly terrible and rarely above the "bar band" category but still there's something like a hundred thousand visitors and people absolutely love it.
