a mix between The Stone Roses and Primal Scream with the swagger of Oasis

pretty sure that's why so few UK bands manage to break the states. didn't oasis split up on their first big US tour? and yet their support group screaming trees kept on trucking even though lanegan was busted for crack possession. not to be a macho douchebag, but THAT'S how you rock and roll.

The band describes themselves as having a very raw and original sound, it’s a sound that mimics the 1960s, with a very ‘Quadraphenia’ feel. They take influence from a range of different bands, including The Beatles, Oasis and Kasabian.

“You couldn’t listen to us and label us to sounding like a particular band, but to describe our music to someone who hasn’t heard us before then it would be a cake of three ingredients, Arctic Monkeys, The Jam, The Libertines, with a few extras.”

Blending a mix of driving guitars and heavy drumbeats with dreamy riffs and anthemic melodies, Kartica achieve a roaring guitar sound with echoes of Oasis, The Verve, Ocean Colour Scene and The Stone Roses.[1] They were described by NME magazine as "Solid Sheffield indie rock"

Check out the lads

this is one step down from "a band that exists"

Sly Dog's PR (or whichever of them wrote it) could do with being a bit less defensive

i appreciate these lads' stubborn refusal to kow tow to pop orthodoxy and current trends. these guys are like 21st century teddy boys.

I'm kinda stumped trying to come up with a US equivalent, although I guarantee there more than a couple American bands that would fit in this presentation. You could make it with the glam bands that try to dress like Aerosmith, but I don't know that that look has carried on to the current day in the same way.

There are plenty of dudes with facial hair that have tried to re-create the early pictures of The Band (and/or Civil War re-enactments).

earlnash, Tuesday, 10 February 2015 03:25 (nine years ago) link

"Sly Dog are young and do not lack confidence, which is very important when you want your music to be heard, at a time when it seems harder than ever to get your music across in an age where the pleasure of discovering a band and listening to an album has been altered by the inconvenience of I-Tunes and the delete button culture that the internet has spawned."

I can't help wondering if Sly Dog could diagram this sentence.
