don't know if paul mccartney is really adding nearly as much musically as he is adding to the 'branding' package etc

it is interesting that Paul has a feature credit is in the photo accompanying the release of "FourFiveSeconds" but it's apparently the Dirty Projectors guy playing the guitar that is so much more prominent than any of the things Paul is playing

I don't see McCartney's move as cynical; I'm sure he'd pass a lie detector test when confessing he genuinely sought a challenge working with Kanye, but so far the results sound like Kanye could have sought the musical counsel of Duncan Sheik and no one would have noticed the difference.

From a PR standpoint though the collaboration looks like Rolling Stone cover story manna.

Plus: I genuinely don't know the answer, but are McCartney fans -- whoever or whatever they are -- going to buy a Kanye album? It's more likely Kanye fans own Beatles and Wings reissue albums/mp3s.

I am a Kanye fan who reads Pitchfork and I do not own any Wings records. I can't recall ever seeing anyone my age or younger ever talk about Wings records. Your experience may vary.

he was talking about working w/ Kanye on his next album as little as 6 months ago so he probably is on this album. it's funny how every Kanye album has 50 co-producers but anytime one especially famous one is announced people assume they're gonna be the sole co-pilot for the entire thing.

honestly, whether its paul or rick rubin, i dont think kanye is falling off for a while yet. it might appear to betray his inherent conservatism, but hes too contradictory for it to be boring (or be that straightforward as a play for the establishment).
