It still goes back to "Leave Them All Behind," for me...a song which brings to mind (alas,) the Spinal Tap phrase about "the majesty of rock," but...phew. What a monster that song is.

I gots no axe to grind with "Carnival of Light," of which I dig portions, and I happen to think "Black Nite Crash" is acceptable fake-Stooges...

The cello on "Vapour Trail" is ever so slightly out of tune, too, which kind of takes away from the grandeur the song aims for (which "Seagull" in its noise flurry achieves). I mean I know it's indie and they're not like Chicago or anything, but man, you'd think a cellist would have at least some sort of ear, it not being an instrument you just kinda pick up and learn.

There can be only one... "Leave Them All Behind". That one part towards the end when the phased guitar lead comes in is one of my favorite moments in music ever.

The "Leave Them All Behind" single is the greatest thing ever, you've got LTAB, a nicely roughed up version of "Chrome Waves" and "Grasshopper".

As it tends to occur with most bands whose singles i'd collected, the new remasters offer a bunch of tasty's only hereto available as a b-side -- and yes, the single version of LTAB is the equal of "boar-hog teats" -- and anotherthing, Tarantula is utter rubbish (as was (most of) Carnival).

--The remasters, though, any comment on their improved headroom?

I love Carnival of Light. It was the first Ride record I ever heard, and it has a special, special place in my heart. (And 'Crown of Creation' is my favourite song off it, for reasons best left unmentioned.)

'Vapour Trail' for me. My tape of 'Nowhere' died from too much rewinding back to that song.

"Seagull", preferably live. Loved the early Ride gigs, but even at the height of my regard for the band the albums were kinda flat. Had totally lost interest after the 2nd LP.

seeing the ride and lush tour when i was a teenager changed my life, it didn't actually, but what about those days when you actually wanted to see opening bands ride/lush, ride/slowdive, catherine wheel/slowdive, house of love/catherine wheel, even bloody revolver and the dreadful drop nineteens.
