yeah, that sounds good! another italian thing i'm kind of enjoying atm is the clap! clap! album 'tayi bebba' which is basically samples of various african recordings over footwork beats. might sound like a clunky concept but it's pretty engaging music. there's definitely the whole issue of cultural appropriation to be wrestled with though

get on that vessel album imo, it's kind of this year's answer to last year's james holden album

Never listened to HTRK before this album. I bought it off a whim and have listened to it a few times nothing really caught my attention. Guess I'm still waiting for it to sink in.

One of my friends turned me on to Broncho last year, but the new album Just Enough Hip To Be Woman came out two weeks ago and it's so goddamn good. Indie rock and me rarely see eye to eye anymore, but I'm definitely feelin' what this band is doing.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 2 October 2014 06:41 (nine years ago) link

^^^ I second that, their album is excellent.

everyday sheeple (Michael B), Monday, 13 October 2014 20:58 (nine years ago) link

Still making my way through Nude Beach's 77 but there are some clear standouts already - sounds like an excellent companion to some of the more sprawling recent Sloan albums.

> Richard Pinhas & Oren Ambarchi - Tikkun

Sheesh, I've been trying to keep up with Oren Ambarchi and it looks like he's been releasing something new every month.

crowhurst, Friday, 17 October 2014 08:04 (nine years ago) link

Two usual suspects:

Matthew Shipp - I've Been to Many Places
Maria Rita - Coração a Batucar

_Rudipherous_, Saturday, 18 October 2014 02:47 (nine years ago) link

I decided to start pulling together cover art for albums I've been into for any extended period of time this year, and went ahead and included the Röyksopp and Javiera Mena because I'm pretty sure they'll be in heavy rotation once they arrive (and also because I needed two more for the grid).

thanks for this grid Johnny Fever, I am going to listen to the albums I am not familiar with based on my fondness for the albums I am actually familiar with and your good work in the Shambhala of Not Indie Not Pop.

boxedjoy, Sunday, 19 October 2014 17:41 (nine years ago) link

FYI that Nottee album is produced by Henning Furst of The Tough Alliance.

boxedjoy, Sunday, 19 October 2014 17:41 (nine years ago) link

I've been waiting for a Nottee full length for forever, and it does not disappoint.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 19 October 2014 18:48 (nine years ago) link

That's a great set JF and very aligned with my own this year! There's at least 10 of those albums in my own list. Will share it later on the year.

Moka, Sunday, 19 October 2014 19:52 (nine years ago) link

This is actually a 2013 release!

Le Prince Miiaou - Where Is the Queen?

Moka, Sunday, 19 October 2014 19:54 (nine years ago) link

Everything I've found online about it says it came out in January of '14.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 19 October 2014 20:25 (nine years ago) link

Yes, you're right. My bad, spotify and itunes have it as 2013 but the official release was 27 Jan 2014

Moka, Sunday, 19 October 2014 21:47 (nine years ago) link

Add Blue Planet Eyes by The Preatures to my list. What a damn good record.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 22 October 2014 18:33 (nine years ago) link

Can't find that Jennifer Castle album on Spotify or Rhapsody. "Pink City" the song sounds great.

Rod Steel (musicfanatic), Wednesday, 22 October 2014 23:54 (nine years ago) link

yeah the preatures' album doesn't quite hit the high watermark of something like days are gone but it gets close

uxorious gazumping (monotony), Thursday, 23 October 2014 01:02 (nine years ago) link

I was just ambushed by this song in a Chipotle. Although the album is 2013 the song seems to have been "singled" or w/e in 2014:

Anyone else knocked out by 'No Deal' by Melanie De Biasio? Surprised no mention yet on ILM. If you like any of the following, do seek it out.
- Spririt Of Eden or Mark Hollis (not as in exact soundalikes but as in, if you put it on after one of these, you wouldn't be dramatically altering the mood)
- albums that sound good on your bourgeois stereo and make you want to turn the lights down and listen all the way through
- minimalist arrangements and running time (33mins long)
- "Belgium's own Billie Holiday", one review said

Supposed Former ILM Lurker (WeWantMiles), Friday, 24 October 2014 13:00 (nine years ago) link
