I'm assuming lots of other people are as enamoured of wistful psychedelic Eno as I am, else I'm going to be sorely disappointed with this Top 10.

This is a quart in a pint pot scenario, you can't fit the number of great songs not placed in the poll so far into the Top 10

one of the things i love most about this song is its ability to evoke memories both real and imagined -- one time it started playing right as i entered a USPS and i felt like it was a sign of my imminent demisenothing happened, but wow what an evocative song! a single syllable

"Warm Jets" is probably my favorite intersection between Eno's aggressive and beatific modes; very high on my ballot.
― one way street, Friday, 11 July 2014 17:14 (nine years ago) link
Great way to start an album! And a career! I don't think it even made my top 10, curse me.

I think I could have voted for all but a handful of songs on those four 70s albums, but "Warm Jets" didn't make the cut.

(xxp) I only added this to my poll at the last minute, I was working from memory and had totally forgotten about it! (Despite Trayce's excellent cover version).
― Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Friday, 11 July 2014 17:25 (nine years ago) link
I had 'Here Come the Warm Jets' as number one on my ballot too, how come there's only one #1 in the results?
This poll has inspired a week of near constant Eno listening for me. Albums wise I think 'Taking Tiger Mountain' is underrated. It's my fave after 'Another Green World'.
― Internet Alan, Friday, 11 July 2014 17:26 (nine years ago) link
Six slots left - and there's at least 10 things that were on my ballot that haven't shown up yet that I assumed were locks for a top 50.
I must say I'm surprised at how well the first two albums are doing here. Taking Tiger Mountain in particular I just find mostly irritating TBH.
Also surprised that ppl seem to have cooled on Bush of Ghosts so much, though I can appreciate that it won't seem as radical now as it did at the time.

Spider & I was my number two. Such a beautiful song. The "We sleep in the morning" bit followed by that little wonky bass is one of my favourite musical moments ever. So sad.

This one showed up on so many ballots -- and seemingly all at #6 -- during a stretch when I was looking at each one as it came in that I thought it would win the whole thing. Probably skewed by wishful thinking and the fact that it was my #2. But the lack of 1st-place votes knocked it down.
This is the last song that doesn't have any 1st-place votes.
― it's not rocker science (WilliamC), Friday, 11 July 2014 18:31 (nine years ago) link
Spider and Julie are both so similar, but somehow it doesn't turn the whole album into slow/wistful/sadville.

I was sure that'd be number one! It was mine, in the end. I think I like different songs off HCTWJ best at different points in time, but it kind of felt like the platonic ideal of the 'pop' period when I was compiling my ballot.

agree -- i voted it #1 too for basically the same reasonanother super-evocative song too. it really conjures its own special mood that few other songs manage to conjure effectively.

oops that was to emil.y
"Baby's On Fire" one of the few songs on my shortlist of least favorite Eno tracks. If it had one I would have quiet rioted.

I always had an idea what the top two would be when this poll was announced. Unless I got it very wrong it seems like I guessed right. Not sure which way round it will be but to me it doesn't really matter as their both perfect.
