"Benz Friends" Andre verse is pretty eh

Kinda disappointed with this really. The first track really made me sit up and take notice, and the run of ballads from the title track onwards is great but the rest if kind of a slog. Feel like he got the balance wrong with this one because his bangers are totally generic whereas his emo candyfloss space ballads sound like no-one else.

That triplet flow he uses feel more and more like a lazy default the more you hear it as well.

Speaking of which the moment in "I Be U" where the singing blurs and briefly sounds more robotic is amazing. chills man

i love this album but the Kanye verse is probably the worst thing to happen anywhere ever

i'm several listens in, time to share thoughts:

even with Wiz, first five tracks are a great start.

wish i could boot I Won and extend Never Satisfied.

I Be U is DOOOPE. and pandemic otm, loving Blood Sweat Tears, too.

in fact, Blood -> Side Effects -> I'll Be Yours is an awesome run

i don't hate the bangers, but yeah, gimme the space ballads

overall, i dunno if it's better than Pluto but i think this is quite good

this is weird to listen to on a laptop speaker, you can't tell where the bass is at all, it's just tick tick tick tick tick and a haze of autotune and digital processing

I Won would be the best song ever without Kanye.

Think it had potential but it skates a little too close to schmaltz

for me, Pluto was a major grower. i'd imagine you're right, but what if Honest does the same thing?

Starting to think Honest > Pluto

good often thrilling record. feels weirdly unfinished for something obviously very fussed over. not as good as pluto probably.

First half is dope though. There are three things wrong with this album: Pusha, Kanye, Wiz.

read an interview w future where he said hes not having superstar features anymore cause its too much hassle getting everyone to show up and sign off and this album wouldve been out a year ago if it wasnt for them so theres that

Don't get the dislike for the Pusha verse in this thread. a couple parts I can see but as a whole it's straight

there is a real nitpicky element to this thread

this album has some really incredible moments and i wish it had been tightened up just a little more - feel like i shouldn't have to be cherrypicking from it or gritting my teeth through kanye or pusha

the andré track is actually really unexpectedly great though! "look ahead", "i be u", "special", "side effects" all brilliant. i never thought "sh!t" was more than a minor pleasure but it turns out i forgot what a booming entrance it makes

"look ahead" kinda gives me "power" vibes?? in a good way

the first album was so in the synthed out mike will zone it had a real sense cohesion and culture, this one sounds way more general and cosmopolitan, feels a lil unfocused, lots of samples, a bunch of features from regular ass rappers that dont really fit imo, idk
