I didn't need to put anything in the tracks box.. I voted really early though

SeanWayne, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 01:46 (ten years ago) link

Maybe you're not getting the ballots in cuz of the Google password needed to see the spread sheet..

You shouldn't need to sign in to see the nominations spreadsheet, if that's what you mean?

I've changed the form so you can leave the tracks bit blank - I had misunderstood the intention here, sorry.

I think more people should be talking about the Obliteration album, "Black Death Horizon".

Yes, this is good!

I voted! For the first time evah!

Cheers Dl! we're up to 15 ballots now.. Thank you!

Chucked my virgin ballot into the volcano.

Death Angel is listed as Dark Angel, btw. Being much more a fan of the latter than the former, I went into a momentary google tizzy.

Also, it didn't make my top ten, but if anyone has been displeased with Satyricon since Volcano and wishes to find a suitable taker upper of that sound, Sonic Reign's Monument in Black is a stormer. So good are they that I excuse the borderline plagiarism of that other band's "Fuel for Hatred" and "Possessed" in this tune:

Wolf People - Fain
Psych/prog and proto-metal influences rooted in obscure Finnish psych, Mighty Baby, Dark, Groundhogs and The Trees. Along similar lines are fellow UK band Hidden Masters, who I've been obsessed with the past couple weeks but I didn't nominate them because they're not as heavy.

Sorry, at first I embedded because I didn't realize there was supposed to be a separate thread for that. But now with so few days left until the end, and the relative inactivity of this thread, it didn't seem to matter anymore.

Argus - Beyond The Martyrs

Fastnbulbous, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 18:34 (ten years ago) link

Hailing from the fertile metallic landscapes of Pennsylvania, Argus is releasing their third and best album on the Italian metal label that was founded in 2003, and was once the home of Slough Feg and other like minded bands. Unlike Argus’ first two consistently strong albums, doom is less of a factor on Beyond The Martyrs, emphasizing their twin guitar interplay, and mixing in the epic with the darkness. The band were named from a vision Eric Johnson had of Argus Panoptes, the mythological primordial giant with a hundred eyes. Several bands have taken up that name, but this is the one most worthy of it.

reductio balls absurdum (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 8 January 2014 21:53 (ten years ago) link

forgetfulness. Drugs if you cared you could have nominated it ya know.

God placement is so hard, I'm really struggling on my ballot.

Viceroy, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 23:20 (ten years ago) link

OK I finally got my ballots in! a full 50 for the albums and a top 10 for tracks! weeeee!

Viceroy, Thursday, 9 January 2014 00:54 (ten years ago) link

I am voting but all this does is make me feel bad for all the albums I didn't hear this year.

or on the bright side all the albums you can still check out!

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Thursday, 9 January 2014 16:13 (ten years ago) link

I assume just put it in order from top to bottom then?

Loud guitars shit all over "Bette Davis Eyes" (NYCNative), Thursday, 9 January 2014 16:20 (ten years ago) link

Well, that's how I did it.

Loud guitars shit all over "Bette Davis Eyes" (NYCNative), Thursday, 9 January 2014 16:40 (ten years ago) link

You did it right (except I'm surprised Attila was your #1)

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Thursday, 9 January 2014 16:47 (ten years ago) link

I was worried our longtime lurker voter Cronos Smith was not going to vote this year but I was pleasantly surprised to see he has overnight.

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Thursday, 9 January 2014 16:49 (ten years ago) link

I am a bit nervous... With the low turnout my lame-ass will have more of an impact.

Loud guitars shit all over "Bette Davis Eyes" (NYCNative), Thursday, 9 January 2014 17:03 (ten years ago) link

we should get to thirty ballots. but if any votes have the possibility to change things then that is a good incentive to vote!

Remember everyone you can vote in the tracks poll too!

Here is my appeal:

People, if you don't vote, my lame ass who has to buy everything (and doesn't have a lot of money to do that either) will have a much larger impact on the results, possibly tarnishing this fine website forever.

Please consider the children.

Thank you.

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Thursday, 9 January 2014 21:25 (ten years ago) link

I realize jmm's earlier comment may have been in jest, but I'm so tired of seeing "Deafheaven" and "hipster" in the same sentence. I'm an old-school metal head who's been listening to heavy music for 25 years (nothing hipster about me) -- and I LOVE Deafheaven. Is it just because the singer's handsome? Is it because they seem to have a sense of humor in their personal lives? Or do folks still perhaps equate popularity with lack of integrity/lack of chops? If you don't like them, whatever, but for God's sake let's all stop with the term "hipster."

Skrot Montague, Thursday, 9 January 2014 21:55 (ten years ago) link

Love Bolzer and In Solitude too btw!

Skrot Montague, Thursday, 9 January 2014 21:59 (ten years ago) link

I think its the fact they appeared on so many non-metal lists as well as metal lists, aren't on a metal label, dont look like metallers as much as they dont like the music after all theres plenty of music people dont like but never talk about.

You never hear anyone slagging off the death metal band Farting Dudes In Sweatpants and they're really bad.

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Thursday, 9 January 2014 22:06 (ten years ago) link

Yeah don't worry, I was just kidding. I'd never use that term seriously.
