Cool, just what I'm looking for. I've been wanting to hear more blackened post-punk sounds since getting into the Vaura album. Is there much other stuff in this vein out there?
― jmm, Saturday, 4 January 2014 21:32 (ten years ago) link
xp Don't see how it matters these days, as the Sahg is available digitally worldwide via Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, GooglePlay, etc. III never even had a U.S. release. What label is putting it out? Hope that means they'll actually tour the U.S.

and its not like the rolling promo crew dont get their promos months earlier anyway
― pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Saturday, 4 January 2014 22:51 (ten years ago) link
i listened to germ with high expectations, it was wack
― j., Saturday, 4 January 2014 23:04 (ten years ago) link
It matters if the people that make the lists (critics) don't get the album until well into the next year – most writers probably won't be getting it until February unless they're doing a review like I am. And if they don't get the album as a promo, they usually means that they don't realize that it exists. Just kind of how works. Writers often get the album only several weeks ahead of the release date, not months.
Also, J, have you considered that the wackness lies with you and not Germ?
― J3ff T., Sunday, 5 January 2014 00:27 (ten years ago) link
hypothesis considered and REJECTED
― j., Sunday, 5 January 2014 02:02 (ten years ago) link
Not feeling that Germ.. I'm thinking this is gonna be the new trend though. A former drum student of my sent me a link a few months ago doing something similar-he didn't get into the new wave up tempos, but the vibe was very close. One man bands, non performance more than likely, dark, none blast beat black metal, that has a dark wave feel.. I think this will be a little more appealing to a lot of folks as well. It don't do shit for me, but whatevs..

I'm stunned right now at how good the Bölzer EP is. Such a huge sound and so expressive.
― jmm, Sunday, 5 January 2014 04:03 (ten years ago) link
Entranced by the Wolfshook, holy shit. That's one of the hugest opening riffs I've ever heard.
― jmm, Sunday, 5 January 2014 04:36 (ten years ago) link
anybody with passing interest in space rock or stoner rock should probably spend sixty minutes of their lives checking out this album from the Cosmic Dead. It's p far out, but I dug it.

i apologize in advance for not voting in this but no lie, i have not listened to a single new album this year
― Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Monday, 6 January 2014 16:25 (ten years ago) link
The tracks spreadsheet seems to be missing a lot of nominations. A bunch were submitted Dec. 20-23.

oh. I left that to fnb, sorry.

Is this going to be the end of ILM metal polls? That would be too bad cuz I always felt the results were by far the best, most well-rounded of all the metal polls. One list to rule them all \m/
However, if Deafheaven win this year I take that back, cuz seriously, they can suckit ;)
― Fastnbulbous, Monday, 6 January 2014 17:44 (ten years ago) link
as I posted on the thread drugs a money bumped2010 had 80 ballots2011 had 74 ballots2012 under new management there was 51 ballots
― pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 6 January 2014 17:46 (ten years ago) link
BTW I had no access to the spreadsheet for tracks, and did not volunteer for that nonsense. I can barely keep track of the hundreds and hundreds of albums. I will vote for tracks from what's available though.
― Fastnbulbous, Monday, 6 January 2014 17:47 (ten years ago) link
If we dont have enough votes for a rollout it will probably be just a list in one go of the top 10 or so. so please vote!
― pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 6 January 2014 18:58 (ten years ago) link
Another vote! thanks kkdominator!

I could pretty easily come up with the minimum 5 albums from the fairly comprehensive album list, but scanning that track list, there are only 2 songs I recognize. Not sure if I'll have enough time to listen through the rest before Friday. Is the tracks ballot required?
― o. nate, Monday, 6 January 2014 20:55 (ten years ago) link
no its voluntary. there is a playlist on spotify tho
― pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 6 January 2014 21:10 (ten years ago) link
Okay, thanks. I'll try to listen to it before Friday.

if someone gives me the list of tracks noms missed i will ask seandalai to add them to the document. as we dont have many ballots in it wont matter PLUS anyone can resubmit their vote
― pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 6 January 2014 21:16 (ten years ago) link
To switch gears to campaigning for a bit, I think more people should be talking about the Obliteration album, "Black Death Horizon". I'm not an expert on metal sub-genres. This seems vaguely death-metal though with a distinct sound of their own, especially the high-pitched yelped vocals which are great. Great raw and loose sound.

This should cover all of the missing tracks. The tracks already in the spreadsheet are in order of nomination, ending with Oranssi Pazuzu - Reika Miasammassa. This is every track nominated after that, in order of nomination.

did you just post your ballot on the thread?
― Viceroy, Monday, 6 January 2014 21:36 (ten years ago) link
thanks I'll try get seandalai's attention!xp
― pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 6 January 2014 21:41 (ten years ago) link
and everyone can vote for them from now on obviously!
― pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 6 January 2014 21:43 (ten years ago) link
and if anyone wishes to resubmit a tracks ballot then they can. We will accept the last ballot from everyone so dont worry if you have voted before. Also anyone who voted for albums and not tracks can still send in a tracks ballot.
― pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 6 January 2014 21:45 (ten years ago) link
maybe you should extend the deadline a few days? That might help to bring some more ballots in.
― Viceroy, Monday, 6 January 2014 21:48 (ten years ago) link
also, some awesome shoegazy/atmospheric black metal:
Paysage d'Hiver - Das Torhttp://youtu.be/QeWQrrCN8jU
They're also on spotify but the physical release of Das Tor was "Strictly limited to 300 hand numbered cassettes." So you know it's fvking trv cvlt.
― Viceroy, Monday, 6 January 2014 22:08 (ten years ago) link
even though I heard that apparently atmospheric black metal is "over."
cant extend it due to the big poll timeframe

Usnea is spelled wrong in the voting at top.
― Nate Carson, Monday, 6 January 2014 23:07 (ten years ago) link
cheers. Seandalai might want the typos to be uniform then he will change it for the results as I think it works out easier for him that way.
― pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 6 January 2014 23:37 (ten years ago) link
spreadsheet updated with tracks. Thanks seandalai!
― pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 01:05 (ten years ago) link
I re-voted.
You shouldn't make t so you have to vote for tracks or albums if you don't want. My tracks aren't tracks but a comment broken into lines so I could submit it.
― EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 01:08 (ten years ago) link
I don't understand? You can vote for albums but not tracks if you want and vice versa.
― pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 01:20 (ten years ago) link
Unless seandalai changed it?
― pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 01:21 (ten years ago) link
I didn't vote for tracks.. too much for me.
― SeanWayne, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 01:41 (ten years ago) link
It said I had to put something in the tracks field in order to submit.
― EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 01:42 (ten years ago) link
I had tracks the first time but I changed my mind. When I resubmitted it says both fields are required.
― EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 01:43 (ten years ago) link
Maybe you're not getting the ballots in cuz of the Google password needed to see the spread sheet.. Maybe its turned some folks off. idk. I could gives a fuck about a spreadsheet. I went analog and wrote my shit down with a pen and paper first.. lol! remember those?!?
― SeanWayne, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 01:45 (ten years ago) link
I didn't need to put anything in the tracks box.. I voted really early though
― SeanWayne, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 01:46 (ten years ago) link
Maybe you're not getting the ballots in cuz of the Google password needed to see the spread sheet..
You shouldn't need to sign in to see the nominations spreadsheet, if that's what you mean?
I've changed the form so you can leave the tracks bit blank - I had misunderstood the intention here, sorry.
