Dolphin's Cry was hilarious but catchy, the rest of that album was a pile of poopy.

Are they still active without him? I thought it was just a case of them saying "fuck off" and then dissolving.

Live (/ˈlaɪv/, often typeset as LĪVE) is an American rock band from York, Pennsylvania, composed of Chad Taylor (lead guitar), Patrick Dahlheimer (bass), Chad Gracey (drums), and Chris Shinn (vocals). Live's original lead singer Ed Kowalczyk left the band in November 2009.
On November 30, 2009, Chad Taylor revealed that what had initially been termed a "two-year hiatus" was more likely the end of the band, due to what he felt were inappropriate and possibly illegal actions by Ed Kowalczyk,[5] which have resulted in a lawsuit being filed against him by the other three band members.[6] In June 2011, Taylor revealed that he, Gracey and Dahlheimer were to reform Live without Kowalczyk,[7] who confirmed that he would not work with the other three again.[8] In March 2012, Chris Shinn, formerly of the band Unified Theory, replaced Kowalczyk as lead singer.[9]
On January 24, 2012 Taylor, Dahlheimer and Gracey announced that they were leading members in a project to renovate a four story building at 210 York Street in York. Three floors will house a technology company, creating 60 new jobs. The building will also include a brand new recording studio.[17]
The band returned from their nearly three-year hiatus on March 12, 2012, with Chris Shinn, formerly of Unified Theory, as their new lead singer. The new line-up performed before an invited audience at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center in York. The band performed as a six-piece with The Gracious Few's Sean Hennesy on guitar and Alexander Lefever on keyboards.[9][18] In July 2012, Live commenced more legal proceedings against Ed Kowalczyk, this time for misuse of the band's name while promoting his live performances.[19]Live's first major tour with Shinn was as part of the Summerland Tour 2013, playing 35 shows across the US. Other featured bands were Everclear, Filter and Sponge.[20]

there was some episode of some show on MTV where they were exploring Live's origins and Ed went back to his former school and his choir teacher was talking about him and all I could think was god, Ed would have to be the worst possible dude to be in a choir.

I know I've heard this song but I cannot for the life of me remember how it goes. And every time I try to remember how it goes, I hear Ed Kowalczyk singing 'sayababydoyouwannalaydownwithme, sayababydoyouwannalaydownbymyside'. But that can't be right.

I really enjoy this record. That famous riff sounds like the guitar equivalent of a jammed copier machine. Some of the other songs have good Ed K moments too.

Just had one of those "Oh, that song!" moments revisiting this. First time in over 20 years.
Now listening to seriously fake-R.E.M. opening cut "Rattlesnake". '...laughing gas and ennui' indeed.

I enjoyed Secret Samadhi at the time, it was enjoyable pop, albeit nowhere near as immediate or ear-wormy as Throwing Copper. it had to do since I wanted to start buying extreme metal albums but since I didn't have a job and they'd be buying me any music, my mother and father would literally read the entire lyric books of every album I bought, and if they saw something they didn't like, I got an earful, and I didn't wanna get grounded for "tricking" them. so Live would have to do.
my dad objected to Aerosmith's Get a Grip ffs, because of Eat the Rich's "take your grey poupon my friend, and shove it up your ass".

― Doctor Casino, Sunday, 24 May 2020 10:38 (four years ago) link
lol I don't think he bothered to check on the lyrics for this album, somehow.
I remember being so starved to hear good music in the mid-90s, pre-mp3 explosion, I used to call 1-800-MusicNow, which was some music ordering service, and they'd let you say a band's name, and choose an album, and they'd play short snippets from 4 or 5 songs. I actually played it on speakerphone for several bands one day and recorded these snippets.

just an fyi"lakini's juice" is only a hilarious karaoke choice if the people in your group are all 30-40 years old. it is completely lost on young millennials and zoomers or whatever
― mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Sunday, 24 May 2020 15:27 (four years ago) link

― mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Sunday, 24 May 2020 15:28 (four years ago) link
It's even more of a knee slapper if 90%+ of the group consists of people in their 30s/40s and the remainder of zoomers.
