"Ether" vs. "Takeover"

Me too. I've always liked how Jay uses the first verse to set himself up as an unassailable force before he starts calling names, between that and the beat, which is some knocking-down-the-doors (npi) shit, "Takeover" sounds overwhelmingly confident, whereas "Ether" sounds withdrawn and petty.

jay-z had but 2 good lines in that whole half-dope gayne west track jack (every song he produced is overshadowed by what he stole ftw)

the best jay diss ever was this track jaz did a few years ago, i only foudn it on some weirdo jay z fan site that would post streams of everything in the world even tangentially related to rocafella. anyway fuck jaz broke it down pretty hard....he's probably like the most underrated rapper ever. i liked that kingz county thing he put out a few years ago.

Stillmatic = tracks 5-8 + "What Goes Around"

The Reverend, Sunday, 26 August 2007 21:16 (sixteen years ago) link

Or actually, that's me several years ago talking. I don't trust any opinion I formed prior to the past couple years. I need to reevaluate.

I will rep for Em on Renegade, but I can not in good conscience ride for Girls Girls Girls or Jay's verse on Renegade.

Got this weedhead chick, she always catch me doin shit
Crazy girl wanna leave me but she always forgets
Got this Chinese chick, had to leave her quick'
Cause she kept bootleggin my shit - man
I got this African chick with Eddie Murphy on her skull
She like, "Jigga Man, why you treat me like animal?"

And now I smile like a proud dad, watching his only son that made it
You seem to be only concerned with dissing women
Were you abused as a child, scared to smile, they called you ugly?
Well life is hard, hug me, don't reject me

Nas has been horrible for 24 years or so. The gross misogyny. The absence of humor. The guy is a cancer on hip hop.
