"Time for your nap, Mr Raggett"

"Because this dorky looking cloak and staff are all that between us and the real bad guys."

first I think it's time I kick a little verse! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 15 July 2013 02:38 (ten years ago) link

I'm enjoying the turn this thread has taken

come for the Timberlake, stay for Treebeard

"This meeting of the ILXor White Council will come to order. ME ME ME."

Ned Raggett, Monday, 15 July 2013 03:12 (ten years ago) link

Timberlake & Jay-Z's joint show in London last night was pretty spectacular. The only lull came during Pusher Love (end already!) and the very boring Take Back the Night. But hearing him sing the hooks on Heart of the City and I Just Wanna Love U, or drop a verse of I Want You Back over Izzo, was damn fine.

Deafening silence (DL), Monday, 15 July 2013 09:56 (ten years ago) link

yeah, raves about it in my office today

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 15 July 2013 10:17 (ten years ago) link

I've seen Jay-Z be so-so, but I've seen JT three times, and he was great each time. Screw seeing it in a football stadium here, though.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 15 July 2013 12:15 (ten years ago) link

Jay-Z/JT are the first concert at the Ravens' stadium since U2 a couple years ago -- my editor called me a few hours before U2 hit the stage and asked me if I wanted to cover the show, so i'm still laboring under the unrealistic hope that that could happen with this show.

Upon the release of my new single ‘Take Back The Night’, I was made aware of an organization of the same name called The Take Back The Night Foundation. I wanted to take this opportunity to let all know that neither my song nor its lyrics have any association with the organization.

As I’ve learned more about The Take Back The Night Foundation, I’m moved by its efforts to stop violence against women, create safe communities and encourage respectful relationships for women — Something we all should rally around. It is my hope that this coincidence will bring more awareness to this cause.

It is my hope that this coincidence will bring more awareness to this cause publicity to a single most will find disappointingly out of style.

Boven is het stil (Eric H.), Monday, 15 July 2013 19:09 (ten years ago) link

c'mon, clearly the song will do well

king of steens (some dude), Monday, 15 July 2013 20:01 (ten years ago) link

How is a song that borrows from the same set of influences as some of other big hits of the year considerred out of style?

MarkoP, Monday, 15 July 2013 20:07 (ten years ago) link

i think "dated as fuck" would be the better expression

surm, Monday, 15 July 2013 20:08 (ten years ago) link

I was speaking on behalf of the wildly, inaccurately wrong people itt.

J0rdan S., Friday, 20 September 2013 04:16 (ten years ago) link

Timbaland is basically about as respectable as will.i.am at this point in time

Jean-Claude Brand Ambassador (some dude), Friday, 20 September 2013 04:37 (ten years ago) link

Raelly bad songgg

Me & Mahomies (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Friday, 20 September 2013 04:43 (ten years ago) link

damn not a Le Tigre cover then.

piscesx, Friday, 20 September 2013 04:50 (ten years ago) link

Sounds like a parody.

Van Horn Street, Friday, 20 September 2013 05:39 (ten years ago) link

Greer, Friday, 20 September 2013 07:27 (ten years ago) link

lol it really does sound like a parody :| so this new one is coming out already?

dyl, Friday, 20 September 2013 07:29 (ten years ago) link

what even

The Reverend, Friday, 20 September 2013 09:21 (ten years ago) link

I had to stop the song after the intro so I could facepalm for a couple minutes before I could return to it

The Reverend, Friday, 20 September 2013 09:22 (ten years ago) link

yeah the new one is coming out on tuesday, same date as drake.

Jean-Claude Brand Ambassador (some dude), Friday, 20 September 2013 09:29 (ten years ago) link

this is def mediocre as fuck but damn, the way you lot were carrying on i had the popcorn ready for something outrageous :/

r|t|c, Friday, 20 September 2013 09:42 (ten years ago) link

lmao @ people acting like this is any more pointless, over-long or self-parodic than anything else JT has put out this year

lex pretend, Friday, 20 September 2013 10:20 (ten years ago) link

lmao @ JT for thinking that this of all things merited seven minutes

lex pretend, Friday, 20 September 2013 10:20 (ten years ago) link

damn not an Elvis Costello cover then.

first I think it's time I kick a little verse! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 20 September 2013 11:04 (ten years ago) link

imo you chumps have got it all wrong tbh, jt is clearly a modern day bunuel interrogating bourgeois absurdity thru luxury longueurs

r|t|c, Friday, 20 September 2013 11:06 (ten years ago) link

"Take Back the Night" not sounding too bad now in comparison, is it now?

midnight outdoor nude frolic up north goes south (Eric H.), Friday, 20 September 2013 12:16 (ten years ago) link

Come on. Like chanting "kill me with that coochie coochie coo" isn't jumping the shark so hard their water skies touch down in the lunar maria.

The Reverend, Friday, 20 September 2013 12:22 (ten years ago) link

sure yeah but like how is that not just the latest in a long line of timbo cringe

whatever tho nbd

r|t|c, Friday, 20 September 2013 14:13 (ten years ago) link

Wait is this the next single or just the track being previewed at the moment? World of difference imo, Justin's deep cuts have always had dippy lyrics galore

Jean-Claude Brand Ambassador (some dude), Friday, 20 September 2013 14:31 (ten years ago) link

reminder: "if you'll be my strawberry bubblegum, then I'll be your blueberry lollipop"

katherine, Friday, 20 September 2013 14:54 (ten years ago) link

Idk. That one never bothered me but I never took it as literally as some here did.

The Reverend, Friday, 20 September 2013 18:12 (ten years ago) link

taking it figuratively is the bigger problem

katherine, Friday, 20 September 2013 18:18 (ten years ago) link

Is the whole bubblegum pop genre a squick then?

b/w the verse where lil wayne goes "i just kissed a avatar, now i got a blue dick"

Jean-Claude Brand Ambassador (some dude), Friday, 20 September 2013 20:46 (ten years ago) link

can't second the "jump the shark" claim cuz this is self-parody (esp right after "holy grail") rather than jt completely losing the script, but man this is dumb

da croupier, Friday, 20 September 2013 20:50 (ten years ago) link

but i've always thought his album tracks were poop from the get-go

da croupier, Friday, 20 September 2013 20:51 (ten years ago) link

it's actually surprising that beiber or that austin mahone guy or somebody hasn't dropped some seven minute heartbreak wail with a dude hiccuping in the background

da croupier, Friday, 20 September 2013 20:55 (ten years ago) link

p sure it's a single. I don't even think this is unlistenable or anything, I like the beat switch-up at the end, but it totally fails the suspension of disbelief test.

The Reverend, Friday, 20 September 2013 21:20 (ten years ago) link

They seem more interested in channeling Justin circa 2000-2004 than JT in his current self-indulgent elder statesman of pop pseudo-throwback phase and I don't blame them.

Greer, Friday, 20 September 2013 21:21 (ten years ago) link

it's prob a bad sign that I immediately assembled half the lyrics in my brain upon seeing the title

The Reverend, Friday, 20 September 2013 21:23 (ten years ago) link

It was assembled in one of those word association mad lib sex/love metaphor generators that made half of the last Ciara album

Jean-Claude Brand Ambassador (some dude), Friday, 20 September 2013 22:13 (ten years ago) link

...holy grail

...TKO

...grocery bag
