i dunno guys, he does have the #1 single so maybe he is relevant again.

going #1 off itunes sales alone doesn't make you relevant necessarily

xpost okay what euro dancey stuff has been big in the US the last few years? serious question because i never listen to the radio.

Have you somehow missed the whole "Euro-dance sounds in everything" trend that kicked off around, say, "Sexyback"? I would imagine not.

i and i overstand ilx bomboclaat formatting n ting (The Reverend), Thursday, 12 February 2009 03:48 (fifteen years ago) link

it wasn't straight-up euro dance though, i'm thinking swedish hit factory type stuff, and not just borrowing certain elements, poker face isn't that exactly but it's the closest thing i have heard in a while. although i think cascada charted here so nm

xp okay can't eminem be irrelevant AND not be on the charts? can't i have it all?

White US pop stars appropiating black US music is dope and black US pop stars appropiating Euro music is dope but white US pop stars appropiating Euro music is THE WORST imo.

I realize my JT-love throws that into contradiction, but he was doing both at the same time.

ehhhhhh......

I didn't mean that categorically, even if it was phrased as such. Change all those "is"s to "can be"s.

i and i overstand ilx bomboclaat formatting n ting (The Reverend), Thursday, 12 February 2009 04:18 (fifteen years ago) link

I phrased that v. poorly, come to think of it. But you know what I meant.

yeah I get what you mean

lol

also that new flo rida song sucks, i really hate those tracks which do nothing but relentlessly hammer a huge, obvious sample into your ears

btw, you guys know that 'whatever you like' peaked at no 47 over here :(

lex pretend, Thursday, 12 February 2009 10:20 (fifteen years ago) link

lucky britishes... hearing that song all the time is :(

yeah i didn't much like that either

lex pretend, Thursday, 12 February 2009 18:33 (fifteen years ago) link

ok, lol at the Flo-Rida track being produced by Dr. Luke

The Reverend, Friday, 13 February 2009 10:18 (fifteen years ago) link

Kanye needs to hurry up and release "Paranoid" as a single already.

nay on this. i would love to hear US pop stars getting French and Swedish dudes behind the desk.

..read that as "i would love to hear US pop stars getting French and Saunders behind the desk."

Mark G, Friday, 13 February 2009 14:59 (fifteen years ago) link

guys you're missing the silver lining here...the ascendance of Asher Roth may end up getting totally fucked up by Eminem coming back (and probably just very briefly) at the exact same time...plus 50 just took "Crack A Bottle" for his album, so i'm betting Em will push back his album at least another 6 months now.

some dude, Friday, 13 February 2009 14:59 (fifteen years ago) link

Realized something about Flo Rida, and why I like him -- he reminds me of a Tommy Davidson sketch on In Living Color. Love "Right Round."

Kate, Friday, 13 February 2009 15:57 (fifteen years ago) link

you know what, I just realized that Flo Rida is the new Nelly. Great pop-rap jamz.

just listened to the Flo-Rid song: LOL. Is that Katy Perry on the chorus?

no, her name is Kesha, she has some okay songs. Her influences list is a work of performance art though: http://www.myspace.com/keshaishot

the last nelly album actually had a couple of good trax on it but i agree, even then it's tough to care any more

lex pretend, Saturday, 14 February 2009 10:13 (fifteen years ago) link

and those trax weren't as good as 'in the ayer' or 'low' so the point still stands

lex pretend, Saturday, 14 February 2009 10:13 (fifteen years ago) link

not as good az as in the ayer or low = kinda sad

4 2 KERI HILSON FEATURI TURNIN ME ON

do you guys think Keri is going to get another hit or was "Turnin Me On" only big because of Wayne? I'm hoping that isn't the case but...

i brings that levity (The Brainwasher), Thursday, 19 February 2009 05:33 (fifteen years ago) link

depends on what she has left... "shake it like a dog" or maybe "get it girl"

rev. al shipley (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 19 February 2009 05:35 (fifteen years ago) link

4 8 KELLY CLARKSON MY LIFE WOULD SUCK WITHOUT YOU

this is makin me lol - also the EPIC PLUMMET by "prom queen". maybe the album will never come out

rev. al shipley (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 19 February 2009 05:36 (fifteen years ago) link

hopefully but I doubt wayne actually cares about sales so he'll most likely still inflict that album upon us

i brings that levity (The Brainwasher), Thursday, 19 February 2009 05:38 (fifteen years ago) link

like... if the label just waits 4 months he'll have no recollection of recording the tracks and will have moved onto something else

rev. al shipley (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 19 February 2009 05:39 (fifteen years ago) link

20 24 BEYONCE DIVA
44 49 BEYONCE HALO

This is really interesting to me, because the label was really pushing "Halo" as the next "Irreplacable"/a career defining song for Bey but it seems to be underperforming/ overshadowed by "Diva"... much like "If I Were A Boy" was totally eclipsed by "Single Ladies"... do people not like ballads anymore?

i brings that levity (The Brainwasher), Thursday, 19 February 2009 05:41 (fifteen years ago) link

maybe this 'two singles at once' strategy wasn't the smartest idea

i brings that levity (The Brainwasher), Thursday, 19 February 2009 05:45 (fifteen years ago) link

honestly I don't hear any more singles off of the I Am... side of the album... maybe "Ave Maria"?

i brings that levity (The Brainwasher), Thursday, 19 February 2009 05:45 (fifteen years ago) link

those are pretty limp, neither is nearly as good as "irreplaceable"

rev. al shipley (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 19 February 2009 05:45 (fifteen years ago) link

radio should be a single

rev. al shipley (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 19 February 2009 05:46 (fifteen years ago) link

more like people don't like really shitty zzzzzzz ballads

ABC-DISNEY-PITCHFORK (The Reverend), Thursday, 19 February 2009 05:48 (fifteen years ago) link

"halo" is a beautiful song

i brings that levity (The Brainwasher), Thursday, 19 February 2009 05:48 (fifteen years ago) link

halo is terrific, i don't feel that it's being promoted at all though
