vocals are pretty deep dark and gritty too, to these ears
lex are you thinking of "wishing on a star"

Lex, for fun, you should try playing the tracks from last year's EPs at 45 RPM instead of 33... There are youtubes of some of these:

Gives them a different energy for sure.

definitely!
tbf I think that's what shackleton does live, or at least doubles down on the beats

I wasn't in the right frame of mind for this record last week; listening again, I'm liking it a lot more.

I knew you would see the light. This is is one of them albums that gives you more every time you come back to it.

still gorgeous
title track basically sounds like a lost instrumental from massive attack's mezzanine

those peals of sound breaking out on that song like some sort of involuntary shudder

Finally picked this up. I've listened before but not as closely as it deserves.
Hatch the Plan ....... so good.

awesome.

Faith In Strangers is brilliant, feels like a midpoint of Luxury Problems and Passed Me By but with more shades of grey.

it's not really doing it for me as anything other than background ish :(

hesitated on checking it out but enjoying the new one quite a bit. think I'm getting more of a whiff of goth from some of these songs than I've had before (bass playing on the title track especially). agree that it might not be as striking and as alien as previous stuff - feels like it engages with more mundane human experiences maybe? that's not necessarily a weakness from my pov though.

That's what pulled me in after hearing that song, only to realise that qwas not particularly representative.

New album is really good despite its comparative lack of deep bass sounds

New Andy Stott track sounds like he was listening to I Got 5 On Ithttps://soundcloud.com/modernlove/andy-stott-versi

new double EP (!) is apparently a looser, experimental thing before a proper album in 2020
really great so far
― mh, Thursday, 14 November 2019 20:01 (four years ago) link
This double EP sounds like a proper album to me, or at least it could be. Very high hopes for the 2020 release given this
― octobeard, Thursday, 14 November 2019 20:04 (four years ago) link
Keep thinking "(But You Playin')" should be appended to the title
― change display name (Jordan), Thursday, 14 November 2019 20:51 (four years ago) link
It's a fine EP, but it continues the trend of being nowhere near as good as Luxury Problems.
― pomenitul, Thursday, 14 November 2019 20:52 (four years ago) link
Ooh, I didn’t know about this. It’s pretty great.

Was kind of meh on this earlier, relistening to this now as I am relistening to 2019 albums while trying to make my end of year list and really enjoying this now.
― silverfish, Thursday, 9 January 2020 18:52 (four years ago) link
It is really great, kinda relaxing played low. One of the best of the year I reckon.
― kraudive, Thursday, 9 January 2020 20:11 (four years ago) link
yeah it's easily my fav of his in years... just has a solid tone and vibe about it and is consistent from top to bottom
― octobeard, Friday, 10 January 2020 21:48 (four years ago) link
the new album out today is really fuckin good. nice to see alison skidmore getting proper feature credit this time as well
― intern at pepe le pew research (Simon H.), Friday, 16 April 2021 16:10 (three years ago) link
It's a good one, but definitely feels a bit front loaded. Take the first half and the closing track and you have a stunning EP though. Curious to hear the material he abandoned before this.
