This is a great mix btw. Can anyway deny the objective truth of dj q's ineffable genius at this point.

rev would i be correct in thinking that you're super into dj q productions but less into his mixing?
― Tim F, Monday, 28 January 2013 22:19 (eleven years ago) link
I like his mixing and it was his mixes that made me realize just how great that track is. Why?
― The Reverend, Monday, 28 January 2013 22:27 (eleven years ago) link
And I've been playing his Todd Edwards mix the most, which doesn't even have any of his own stuff.
― The Reverend, Monday, 28 January 2013 22:31 (eleven years ago) link
okay nm maybe it's more a function of his mixes often being talked about in the bubblers thread and his productions being talked about here so I got the impression you were more interested in one than the other.
― Tim F, Monday, 28 January 2013 23:46 (eleven years ago) link
I mean, I can understand if it looks that way cause I haven't really been paying a ton of attention to his greater UK dance wheelhouse lately (hence my lack of participation in the bubblers thread), but he's so good at what he does that he's unignorable.

Finally, Mr. Berman stood up, took a fresh stick of chalk, climbed onto his chair, and reached above the blackboard to draw a horizontal line on the paint. “This,” he said, after a theatrical pause, “is Milton.” He let his hand fall a few inches, drew another line, and said, “This is Shakespeare.” Another line, lower, on the blackboard: “This is Mahler.” And, just below, “Here is Browning.” Then he took a long drag on his cigarette, dropped the chalk onto the floor, and, using the heel of his black leather loafer, ground it into the wooden floorboards. “And this, gentlemen,” he said, “is you.”

This shift k3Y guy is great, a ukg/trap blend sounds horrible written down but is making perfect sense in Q Land (nice parallel with jackin's trappy stuff). I wonder does he play this one as well, it sounds made for him somehow

I like the throwback postbassline mix for playing in the car. I'm less sure about the other, but I need to give it a driving listen as well. I generally like what's happening with the beats in this stuff but the vocal part of it is usually more iffy for me (though I generally like the distortion they are put through). I had just been playing Tropical 2, one my of my main rainy day driving choices, in the car, before I saw this thread yesterday, so that was the context. I still prefer that to just about any of this related stuff. Would love to have more in that precise vein.

Really enjoying the Mixmag one a lot more this morning. I think my response to this music is particularly mood dependent at this point. Maybe that will change with more exposure.

Some unexepcted choices but endless props until the rapture for putting "U & I" at number 3.
Also further endless props for saying of that Shola Ama Dreem Teem remix (which I'm not sure I've heard? Same with his number one. Don't mean to brag but that's unusual w/r/t me and 2-step): "“I’ll never forget this track. Complex simplicity!"
